If you’re like us, you have an old-school RPG itch that has to be scratched every so often. Baldur’s Gate III is some way off, so it falls to Vampire’s Fall: Origins to bring some 2d12 satisfaction.
Materialising on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch today, Vampire’s Fall: Origins takes a neat left turn and imagines a world where vampires are the dominant species (we had a chuckle that you play a vampire from a village called Vamp’ire).
You’ll get to choose you character from some familiar archetypes in the form of the Nosferatu, Ranjeni, Magistrav and Equide, and then jump into an open world that’s jugular-full of questing, choices, turn-based combat and stat min-maxing. There’s a Witchmaster nemesis to overcome, who is looking to bring down the vampire nation, but there are over 250 unique weapons and armours to defend yourself with.
While screenshots and trailers initially looked drab and grimdark, there’s a lot to get excited about here. Reviews on Steam are strong, the game has built up a strong community, a 2D open world RPG has got us fascinated, and the impending Halloween makes it the ideal time to don the fangs, twirl the cloak and pronounce your w’s as v’s.
