Which of this week’s Xbox Live Deals With Gold bargains should you pick up? – 31st July – 6th August 2018

-

It’s back!

Yep, the Xbox Live Deals With Gold sale is delivering bargains galore to Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners across the globe, pushing out discounts left, right and centre to those looking for a cheap way of gaming. But which of the numerous deals found in the Xbox Live Deals With Gold and Spotlight Sale for 31st July – 6th August 2018 are the best… and which are the very worst? We take a look!

Grab – Aven Colony – 67% off – £8.25

I could have quite easily dropped a number of the discounted Team17 titles in here as ones that you should grab this week, as there are many bargains that will bring great gaming pleasures. But I’ve plumped for just the one – that of the rather brilliant Aven Colony.

Now I’m not going to be able to sit here and pretend that the city building found in Aven Colony is going to be to everyone’s liking, but should you have ever wanted to attempt to play god on the strangest of alien worlds, then this more than does the job.

Tasked with ensuring the survival and growth of humanity on the surface of Aven Prime, Aven Colony will have you delving into the deepest depths of micro-management, as you build new structures, decide upon imports and exports, battle the harsh elements of this alien planet and build for the future.

It’s most definitely one of the best city builders available for action today and with the wonderfully atmospheric worlds that you get to take in, will find that Aven Colony is worth every single penny of the £8.25 being asked of it.

Grab – DOOM + Wolfenstein II Bundle – 67% – £18.48

I’m not really sure what more I have to say other than this bundle of Doom and Wolfenstein II is an utter bargain.

I could probably stop there because those words sell this discounted bundle by themselves, but basically put, if you want a couple of stunning single player experiences, with tons of death, more destruction than you can fling a big gun at, and the chance to marvel at brilliant gameplay mechanics, then you will be more than sorted with the DOOM + Wolfenstein II bundle.

For less than £20 you should seriously be getting in on this action packed affair.

Tempter – Yoku’s Island Express – 20% off – £12.79

I’ve had a hard time tagging the glorious Yoku’s Island Express with just the ‘tempter’ tag instead of the ‘get out there and buy the damn thing’ option. But if truth be told, in a week full of great deals, the 20% discount placed on the postmastering skills of this young dung beetle sees it fall just short of a must-buy.

Although to completely contradict those words, Yoku’s Island Express IS a near-on must-buy, with it dropping you into a wonderful pinball inspired world and sending you out on a unique journey of discovery, exploration and um, posting letters.

If you like pinball, then you can’t go wrong with another Team17 published title. But it would be great to see that price come down by just another few quid.

Leave – Tour de France 2018 – 33% – £26.79

So Le Tour is over and the world has gone Geraint Thomas crazy – and for good reason too.

But even the draw of G shouldn’t mean that Tour de France 2018 is one that you pick up this week. And that is for a few reasons…

Firstly, and if truth be known, Tour de France 2018 isn’t a particularly fun game. Yes, it’s marginally better than previous efforts, but with the obvious cash-in that they have come across as, that’s hardly some going. Instead TDF 2018 boils down to simulation and fast forwarding through the boring races, as you instead attempt to put together a team of unlikely heroes. See, gameplay wise and it falls rather flat.

And secondly the 33% discount that the Deals With Gold sale is delivering doesn’t really bring this down to a price point that will see it being anything other than slightly tempting to the most hardened cyclists wanting to live out their cycling dreams.

Whilst those wanting to test themselves over the routes that G and Froomey have conquered all on will find plenty of opportunity, it is well worth holding out for a bigger price drop further down the line. Or even better is to just save the money and instead hop on a real bike – that offers a ton more fun than the official videogame of Le Tour.

As always if you wish to save even more cash on the prices shown, then you would do well to head over to CDKeys and nab some of their cheap Xbox Live credit.
