You’ll know the names, but today the teams at Atari and WayForward join forces to announce an upcoming release of Yars Rising; a modern chapter in the Yars Revenge storyline. And it’ll be coming to PC and console soon.
A new Yars adventure
A classically inspired adventure that has been put together by those at WayForward (you’ll best know them for work on Shantae and River City Girls), Yars Rising is gearing up for launch on PC and console in late 2024. And yep, part of that ‘console’ drop will be launch on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
When it does arrive, expect this to be delivered in the form of a deep, intergalactic mystery, complete with side-scrolling Metroidvania adventure ideas. When you consider it to be a complementary experience to Yars Revenge, things get even more exciting.
“Wayforward’s proven story-telling and world-building powers made them a perfect choice for reimagining one of Atari’s most enduring game franchises,” said Wade Rosen, Chairman and CEO of Atari. “I am confident that fans are going to enjoy this new, dynamic chapter in the Yars storyline: Yars Rising.”
What is Yars Rising?
In Yars Rising, players take control of the young hacker Emi Kimura, who is hired by a mysterious patron to infiltrate the shadowy Qotech corporation. From there you’ll be left to run, jump, sneak, and hack your way through challenges, all as you unravel layers of intrigue in this expansive sci-fi mystery.
Embark on Emi’s journey and the opportunity to decipher the mystery of the corporation’s closely guarded secret and uncover her inexplicable bond to a far-off alien race, will come to the fore.
We don’t need to tell you how Atari have reworked the gaming scene in recent years, with their Recharged series excelling – Yars: Recharged, anyone? But WayForward have also built a reputation; one for developing franchises featuring strong characters and rich storytelling. In Yars Rising, the studio delivers a side-scrolling Metroidvania adventure with platforming action, a balance of stealth and combat gameplay, and retro-inspired mini-games.
When’s Yars Rising coming to Xbox?
