There are numerous options already available in the gaming headset space, with Turtle Beach, Razor, SteelSeries, RIG , PDP, LucidSound and more all vying for your cash. Now though we see Audeze enter the game, announcing that their Penrose Wireless Headset for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5 is now available for pre-order.

If you haven’t heard of Audeze, then you need to know that the California-based high-end audio manufacturer, is best known for delivering the most accurate sound reproduction available today. Hyped as the world’s best reviewed headset brand, with uncompromised audio and precision craftmanship, these are no ordinary cheap and cheerful gaming headsets.

The Penrose Wireless Headset for Xbox and Playstation promises to combine Audeze’s award-winning planar magnetic driver technology with a broadcast quality microphone that has been engineered for enhanced chat and streaming purposes. And that means this is a headset that looks set to deliver the standard for not just the current console generation, but also as we move into Xbox Series X and PS5 territory.

Extending Audeze’s family of gaming headphones that already includes the high-end LCD-GX and the Mobius 3D Surround Sound PC gaming headset, the Penrose has been designed with Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Sony’s PlayStation5 in mind. Equipped with Audeze’s 100mm planar magnetic drivers, a broadcast quality microphone for enhanced chat and streaming, and a 2.4 GHz low-latency lossless wireless connection, should you plump for the Penrose you’ll be sure to experience the very best in audio quality and wireless functionality.

The Penrose microphone has been engineered to bring enhanced voice quality for chat and streaming. Running with a flexible boom construction, you can be sure that making positional adjustments will be effortless, whilst the built-in noise filters reduce up to 20dB of background sound so players can communicate with greater confidence.

Connection wise you should be sorted too. The Penrose wireless headset comes with a USB dongle that can be connected to Xbox Series X, launching this fall, or PlayStation 5 gaming consoles, as well as current generation consoles and PC. Further to that, the Penrose can also be connected to mobile devices using Bluetooth 5.0, with support for both SBC and AAC codecs. And if you so wish, both wireless and Bluetooth connections can be activated simultaneously, allowing users to customize their Penrose sound settings in real time using the Audeze HQ mobile and desktop app.

The Audeze Penrose comes in two flavours – Penrose (for PlayStation4 and PlayStation5 consoles, and Windows and Mac desktops) and Penrose X (for Xbox One and Xbox Series X, and Windows desktops). You’ll find them usually retailing at $299 US, with the first shipments expected in early September 2020.

Audeze Penrose features include:

  • Audeze 100mm planar magnetic drivers
  • Broadcast quality microphone
  • 2.4GHz lossless low-latency wireless
  • Bluetooth 5.0 (SBC and AAC)
  • Audeze HQ mobile and desktop app with custom EQ and sidetone toggling

“We’re excited to finally offer gamers a true wireless planar headset,” says Audeze CEO Sankar Thiagasamudram, adding “Penrose is a huge leap forward for wireless console gaming audio and we can’t wait for people to hear it.”

If you’re sold and feel the need to get a new headset on your bonce, then the Audeze Penrose is now available to pre-order for the limited promotional price of $249 – that’s a cool $50 off MSRP. Just head on over to Audeze and grab a set.

Should you need more convincing, the trailer below should sort you out. Give it a watch and let us know your thoughts. And come September we hope to have a review of these for your perusal.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
