Economic simulation, empire building, classic RTS skimish action, challenging single player campaign, versatile battle mode, competitive and cooperative multiplayer AND a ton of humour. Should you wish to become the Commander of Spacebase Startopia you’re going to have a lot on your plate.
Available to purchase and download right now, after a couple of months kicking around in Xbox Game Preview, Spacebase Startopia from Kalypso Media is a fun romp through outer space, as you utilise all your tactical and strategic nous to keep your space station running as smoothly as possible.
Priced at £49.99, there is much to involve yourself with in Spacebase Startopia from the 10-mission single player campaign which will see all your skills utilised, across the three unique Decks which each require different tactics and takes, and through the multiplayer scene in which you’ll be able to involve yourself with both a competitive and cooperative experience.
There are a load of bases covered in Spacebase Startopia, but what you manage to take out of it should well be pretty unique. You see, as the Commander of said space station you’ll be able to go about creating things as you see fit, maintaining your options as you try to entertain no less than eight Alien races. With a dynamic AI narrator pushing you along in the process, you’ll never be bored of life as float through the galaxy.
We’ve been hands-on with Spacebase Startopia through the entirety of its Xbox Game Preview stint, yet now a full release is with us we’ve even more excited. Our full review thoughts of how the process plays out will be coming your way very soon, but if you’re sold on this galactic adventure and reckon you have the skills in place to ensure your ship is a fine one, get over to the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S (X|S Optimised badge is in place for this one), the PlayStation Store or via Steam.
Further to the base game drop, there is also a DLC pack in place for Spacebase Commanders to enjoy. The Extended Edition Bonus Content comes with a price of £4.19, but gives access to some new fun options – namely a special Alien hat, decorative statues and skins for your Fuzzy droids and Garbage Bots.
SPACEBASE STARTOPIA captivates with its original mix of economic simulation and empire building strategy paired with classic RTS fights. In addition to the single player Campaign and Skirmish mode, there’s also a competitive and co-op multiplayer mode for up to 4 players. And as if maintaining the 3 Space Station Decks, entertaining the 8 Alien races and defending against invaders were not enough of a challenge, the dynamic narrator AI is not going to mince matters and commentates the events.
