When family and friends come round, the drinks are flowing and the chat grows tiresome, it’s usually time to venture to the board game cupboard. Half the time is spent setting it up and packing it away, but there’s an even easier way to enjoy the world of board games at the press of a button... via the Xbox One.

Okay so 2017 may be here, but with so many games due out each year it can take a while before we finish the delights of the year before. After all, every game maintains that it will offer everything we want in a game and with so many failing to deliver it can more often than not end in disappointment anyway. Sometimes though the opposite happens, and whilst we sit watching a release come by, expecting it to be a bit pants, there will be millions of players out there enjoying a fine masterpiece right under our nose.

Gaming can be quite a tough hobby. After all, unless you’re lucky enough to have both an Xbox One and a PS4 sat beneath your TV, then at some point you’ve been forced to choose which games you’re going to want to play. There’s no denying that both consoles have their fair share of impressive exclusive titles, but with games constantly being split between the powers that be, it can put a real dampener on those looking to enjoy gaming for what it is. Whilst we could sit here all day and preach of how much better it would be to see all games available on all platforms, exclusive games are here to stay. Telltale Games have dabbled in many different franchises from the world of comics, television and gaming. It seems as though there domination in the episodic story driven adventure genre is only going to continue going from strength to strength. Now, we all know who the stars of these series are, the leading men and ladies so to speak, but what about the supporting cast? I decided to give some appreciation to the characters that left long-lasting impressions on my Telltale experiences.

Steep is an open-world extreme sports title set on a mountain range. You can ski, snowboard, wingsuit and paraglide your way into the extreme sports record books – accruing a few broken bones along the way. After playing the closed beta, I was hooked. It’s not hard to see why. Steep is a beautiful game which opens an expansive world up to the player. The sky is literally the limit and here are my top 5 things about Ubisoft’s Steep.

I have just recently finished playing Until Dawn over on the other console that sits nicely under my TV. It was bloody terrifying and a great game. But as a result, I am now all horror-ed out for this year’s Halloween. It’s an unbelievably good feeling when you and your mates absolutely trounce the opposing team. That feeling of your squad being a well-oiled and organised, ass-kicking machine helps take gaming to the next level. Both for competitive and cooperative gaming, having a few mates with you can make games infinitely more enjoyable. Being able to communicate and coordinate with your mates in competitive gaming certainly gives you the edge over a team of disorganised randomers.

It’s that time of year again. The time when thousands of excited gamers flock to Cologne all in the shared goal of getting their mitts on the latest upcoming games. Sadly, I’m not counted among the fortunate who are able to actually go to Germany this year, however that doesn’t mean I’m not just as excited as everyone else to see what is unveiled.

LEGO is everywhere. The brick building phenomenon has gone from strength to strength in recent years across all forms of media. None more so than in the videogame world, which has seen LEGO branch out with new and old partnerships involving some of the biggest franchises. They say that survival of the fittest, whether it be on an island, in an apocalypse, or beneath the sea, is the way humanity survives. Whether this is true or not, I can't say, but the fifty tons of loot that I've gathered from the trail of death behind me is weighing my shoulders down and making it a bit harder to run. I set these guns, clothes and countless piles of ammo down on my side table and wonder about what the best survival games are for my trusty Xbox One.

With all the buzz around the games coming from E3, I thought it would be a good time to look at some of the best games on Xbox One. Thing is, these aren't just the best games in general, they're the best fantasy games available right now.
