The hump of the month is always an exciting time in the life of an Xbox gamer. Why? Well, because it’s then where we see the Xbox Games With Gold scheme switch up a bit, bringing more variety to the free gaming scene with new titles. That’s the case here and now as we find two new freebies enter the play zone.
It could be said that February 2021 has proven to be one of the better Xbox Games With Gold months, what with the scheme expanding a little to fit in five free titles for Xbox gamers to enjoy – no matter whether they are rocking Xbox 360, Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S. And when you consider the quality of title – Gears 5 and Resident Evil, speak for themselves – it gets better still.
But now, as the middle of February is reached it’s time to look to all-new free experiences and that means we see the likes of Dandara: Trials of Fear Edition and Lost Planet 2 get stripped of their usual price tags.
The former of these is free for one month – until the middle of March – with Dandara bringing a new 2D Metroidvania style platformer to the fore. Our review back in March of 2020 talked about how it was a ‘salty but sweet’ affair, with praise given to the great art style, the engaging gameplay, the interesting narrative and fitting audio. In fact, we gave it a 4/5 score, with just some mediocre platforming elements and disappointing final boss letting it down. With the usual price tag of £11.99 ripped out though, this is certainly a game that Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players should be checking out, particularly now that it is free.
Further to that comes the removal of price for Lost Planet 2. Now, this isn’t in anyway as modern a title as Dandara, and if we’re honest, it’s probably the weakest of the bunch found being given away through February, but if you failed to play it back in the day – it originally launched way back in 2010 on Xbox 360 – now is your best chance. Hell, even if you don’t want to play it right now, you may as well pop over to the Xbox Store and take home the free download, saving Lost Planet 2 up for a rainy, or snowy, day. The removal of the usual £14.99 price tag shouldn’t be sniffed at.
As always, in order to find these titles for free you’ll need to show your finest Xbox Live Gold subscription card to the bouncer on the Xbox Store door. With that in place though, you’re pretty much good to go, downloading the latest free Xbox Games With Gold titles without hesitation. Just be sure you hit them up prior to the end of the month (in terms of Lost Planet) and by mid-March for Dandara – otherwise they’ll be back up in price before you know it.
