Kiryu Kazuma faces his biggest challenge to date in the form of the Dragon of Kansai as Yakuza Kiwami 2 launches today on Xbox One.
A year has passed since the events of Yakuza Kiwami and the quiet life that Kiryu had planned with Haruka is once again put on hold as he tries to prevent an all-out war happening between two of the biggest Yakuza families, The Tojo Clan and the Omi Alliance. Yakuza Kiwami 2 is often regarded as one of the best entries in the Yakuza franchise, and fans will finally be able to see what happens when the Dragon of Dojima goes up against the Dragon of Kansai.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 also marks the first appearance of the Dragon Engine on Xbox; a huge step-up graphically from the previous releases of Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami. Players can walk straight in and out of shop and restaurants, and combat starts instantaneously.
Other new features over the PlayStation 2 original include a new playable chapter for Goro Majima, charting his course between the events of Kiwami and Kiwami 2, including the return of a major character from Majima’s tale in Yakuza 0.
As with all Yakuza games, there will be tons of side content. Returning favourites such as the Cabaret Club minigame from Yakuza 0, and the Clan Creator from Yakuza 6 are both here. Sotenbori also returns as a playable city, as Kiryu travels between here and Kamurocho, and the SEGA arcades this time around will include fully playable versions of Virtua Fighter 2 and Virtual On: Cyber Troopers. Alongside all this will be the traditionally unique substories and Japanese parlour games that the series has become synonymous with.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 is available to download right now priced at £17.99, but if you are an Xbox Game Pass subscriber – as with the other instalments already on Xbox – it is included in the service! And sitting alongside the main game is a Yakuza Kiwami 2 Clan Creator Bundle. Priced at £7.99 this includes all the DLC ou could ever want, including the rare (SSR) Clan Creator Leaders and Packs and exclusive weapons, the Kiwami Machine Gun and the Kiwami Demon Blade! Game Description:
One year after the 10 billion yen incident, Kazuma Kiryu begins to build a peaceful life with Haruka Sawamura. Tearing him away, an assassination threatens to erupt in an all-out war between the Tojo Clan and the Omi Alliance. Kiryu, the Dragon of Dojima, must travel to Sotenbori, Osaka in an attempt to broker peace between the rival clans, but Ryuji Goda, known as the Dragon of Kansai, will stop at nothing to get his war. In this world, there can only be one dragon. Rebuilt from the ground up, Yakuza Kiwami 2 uses the Dragon Engine to update one of the series stand-out titles into a modern classic. Play fan favorite minigames including updated versions of the Cabaret Club simulator and Clan Creator, or check out all new additions like an arcade port of Virtual On, golf bingo, and Toylets. Also new to Kiwami 2 is the ‘Majima Saga’ which features Goro Majima in his own playable adventure revealing events that occur prior to the game.
