It seems like the team at Ratalaika Games never stop, with weekly new game additions being thrust towards Xbox One, PS4, PS Vita and Nintendo Switch players without a care in the world. And this time round it is the rather quirky retro-styled Back in 1995 which is being given the launch treatment.

Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox One, PS4 and PS Vita, with a Nintendo Switch launch happening on the 24th May, Back in 1995 was first created by indie developer Takaaki Ichijo as a means to replicate the unique feeling he had from his first gaming experiences. And it is that same unique feeling that this developer wishes to push your way, seeing you embracing the 1990s in the process.

See, once upon a time we lived in an age where gaming sessions didn’t just see us play games, but cables would come loose, and game cartridges would need to be reinserted. And whilst it is thankful that those days are long behind us, it has to be said that the golden era of the 1980s and 1990s lives on in our both our memories and our hearts.

It is because of this we get to Back in 1995 on Xbox One, PS4, PS Vita and Nintendo Switch, taking us back to the survival horror days when gaming was real and the classics were first setting foot in the world. A throwback to the survival horror and mystery games of the mid-90’s 32-bit generation, Back in 1995 attempts to faithfully recreate everything from this all-but-forgotten era of games. So prepare yourself and get ready to be transported to a world both concrete and indistinct, where you must uncover the mystery surrounding the disappearance of your daughter, the catastrophe that shook the city, and why you’ve decided to finally return.

Features include:

  • Get lost in the nostalgic world of retro 3D graphics, including low res models, texture warping, CRT emulation, and fixed CCTV style camera angles.
  • Relive the mystery game genre with an old-school user interface and tank controls.
  • Explore a sparse cityscape in the year 1995, littered with clues about the past.
  • Interact with a cast of damaged characters whose intentions you can never truly know.
  • Uncover the mystery of yourself, your daughter, and what happened to the city.

If you want to see what this retro’d survival horror title is all about then heading to your favoured digital store is a must. For us that means paying the Xbox Store a visit and getting access to Back in 1995 on Xbox One for £9.99 – although an initial launch discount sees that come down to £7.99.

Should you be looking to know more before you splash the cash then keep an eye out for our full review. It’s coming real soon!
