If you cast your mind back a few months, you may remember Landflix Odyssey, a platformer in which the protagonist becomes trapped inside a streaming service and must overcome the odds to escape. Well, it’s a similar case where Kingdom of Arcadia is concerned; albeit this time someone has been dragged into their dad’s arcade machine. Will you be able to help him escape the metroidvania style action-platformer that’s just arrived on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and Nintendo Switch?
In Kingdom of Arcadia, you’ll take on the role of Sam, who’s merely a regular young chap that really enjoys video games. When an opportunity arises to play on his father’s old arcade game, Sam simply cannot resist a go. Unfortunately, he gets hauled into the game cabinet – a bit like Jumanji – and, as if by some magic, ends up being a part of the pixelated adventure. Somehow, it’s your job to break a strange spell cast upon Arcadia in order to return Sam home safely.
There are multiple missions for you to undertake while exploring the five metroidvania style levels in place. Along the way, you will encounter a wide variety of enemies such as skeletons and wizard-like folk, as well as a selection of huge and imposing bosses. Naturally, spiky obstacles, lava pools and other standard hazards must also be avoided should you wish to survive. In a bid to make proceedings a tad easier and less daunting, Sam can level up and it’s possible to acquire new gear from shops.
The journey to save Sam in Ratalaika Games’ Kingdom of Arcadia begins with a trip to the Xbox Store, Nintendo eShop or PS Store. Once you’ve parted with the required fee of £4.99, there’s nothing stopping you from embarking on this Xbox Series X|S optimised adventure.
