If you like your angling and think that sitting by the side of a lake for hours on end is the best form of pleasure you can get, then you’ll probably like your fishing games. But you’ll also probably know that those fishing games are few and far between, with just the recent Fishing Sim World, and Dovetail’s Euro Fishing standing out as viable options. Today though a new fishing experience has rocked up onto Xbox One and PC, with Fishing Planet running the free route if you so wish.

Available to download right now, Fishing Planet on Xbox One comes with the brilliant Xbox Play Anywhere tag attached, allowing you to also play the game on PC should you prefer.

But what does it bring to the casting table, and why should you be settling down with this fishing trip over the others? Well, a free download is always a good start and it is that which will let you in on the online first person multiplayer sim that has been created. But from there what Fishing Planet LLC have created promises to deliver the full thrill of real-world angling, as you mess around with lures, take home trophy catches and hone your skills like never before.

With fish that act just like they would out in the open water, with a sophisticated AI system ensuring realism is at the fore of Fishing Planet, it could well be said that this will work out as an angler’s dream title. But there is much more to it than that, and you’ll find decent visuals, changeable weather conditions, realistic damage to your tackle and more all in place.

With zero payout required to let you get in on the action, we think it’s a bit of a no-brainer for the fishing aficionados out there, with it well worth a punt over the other titles which deliver similar experiences. If you like what it brings then you can also start to drop the cash too, with a multitude of paid options available.

The free game can be grabbed from the Xbox Store for Xbox One and PC right now, but then further to that you’ll find the following asking for a bit of cash…

  • Deluxe Pack – £29.24
  • Golden Pack – £41.74
  • Advanced Pack – £16.74
  • Money Pack 50 Baitcoins – £2.49

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. You didn’t mention how to overhand cast, just that it was coming to xbox and PC. Pleae give proper instuctions, as depressinf the right thumbstick as mentioned in the directions is a failure! The people I see Ashley Orion casting, must be coming from a computer perspective
