Born of Bread? Flour power? Yeastpunk RPG? The baking puns are out in force with this one. All we really care about though is how it all plays and we’ll find out once Born of Bread releases in the summer.

Announced for launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC this coming summer, Born of Bread arrives via the WildArts and Dear Villagers teams as it comes fresh out of the oven to deliver gamers a new, home-cooked retro throwback. It promises to whisk us off to the fun RPGs of old-school times, with intriguing characters, charming stories and more.

Born of Bread places focus on Loaf, a flour golem who looks to roam a mystical land. It’s here where he stumbles upon friends old and new, all before finding himself as the hero that the land needs. With a 2.5D setting, environmental puzzles, turn-based/real-time hybrid battles and more, fighting back and taking control of the world will be at the fore of what Born of Bread is able to provide. Just don’t think it’ll be a piece of cake.

In fact, the key features sell it quite well…

  • One flour golem who possesses a never-ending childlike wonder and a set of odd abilities
  • A wonderful world ripe with mysteries
  • An eclectic cast of fleshed-out characters
  • A wacky storyline
  • A pinch of light puzzles
  • Turn-based battles with a dash of real-time minigames
  • Bright, colorful 2.5D graphics
  • Side-missions (add to taste)
  • A captive audience granting you bonuses in battle

“With this extended look at Born of Bread‘s gameplay we wanted to showcase the world, characters, and tone of the game. That this is a lovable adventure taking an adorable cast on an unforgettable adventure,” said WildArts Lead Designer and Programmer Nicolas Lamarche. “Of course there’s also a variety of engaging mechanics in the game, with its combat system that merges turn-based tactics with real-time reflexive mini-games, while Loaf’s doughy form allows him to change shape to solve a variety of puzzles. We look forward to showing you more as Born of Bread launches later this summer!”

Today is all about the latest trailer though. Make sure you take it in below and then hold tight for release of Born of Bread on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam later in the year.
