funtime review xbox 2

Once upon a time there was only one twin-stick shooter worth worrying about – Geometry Wars. But as the genre has grown, so has the multitude of decent offerings. And that is where #Funtime comes in, for this is a game that combines twin-stick shooting with a good old fun time. The best thing about it? It’s available right now on Xbox One.

Available to purchase and download this very instant from the Xbox Store for Xbox One, #Funtime comes from the publishing arm of The Quantum Astrophysicists Guild after being initially created by the one man team at OneGuyGames.

Priced up at ÂŁ12.49 – launch discount in place should you get in early – #Funtime pretty much does as it says on the tin, providing Xbox One gamers with a fun shooting time, as you take control of a delightful little ship and blast your way through a multitude of levels. With an Arcade mode in place to allow you the opportunity to delve through small, medium and large Survival arenas, along with the option to enjoy Waves, Zones and Funtime modes, there is much to enjoy about #Funtime on Xbox One.

But then to really ramp things up, this super colourful shooter also provides 54 Challenge levels for you to really show your skills in, with global leaderboards attached to each. Yep, we all know that bragging rights are king in any twin-stick shooter, and that is the case here.

Throw in the fact that #Funtime tries something a little different to the norm but featuring colour-changing gameplay mechanics, smart bombs, and dash elements, and you’ve got the recipe for a pretty great experience.

Features include:

  • Over 50 challenging levels, all with their own leaderboards
  • 8 distinct battle modes
  • Unique color swapping mechanics
  • Deep scoring system and replayability
  • Original soundtrack with beat-synced levels
  • An extremely Funtime!

Thankfully, as our full review of #Funtime on Xbox One states, it is ‘an extremely accomplished twin-stick shooter that fans of the genre will adore’ and so should you have any inkling of interest in the genre, this is one to involve yourself in. Just pop over to the Xbox Store, splash that asking price and get your download moving.

As always, let us know in the comments if you decide to pick it up.

Game Description:

#Funtime is an explosive twin-stick shooter where shooting isn’t your only weapon. #Funtime combines traditional twin-stick shooting with a unique coloring mechanic. Earn bonus points by coloring the playing field and exploding enemies that cross your path. Persistent ship upgrades allow for lengthier runs filled with even more mayhem. Fast and fun gameplay will have you coming back again and again.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
