Gambling and Gaming for the Ladies

A New Move in Equality

If there is one thing that has become apparent over the years, it is that the gaming industry at large is a massively male-oriented arena, with few to little exceptions. There has been such a bias in both gambling and conventional gaming towards males, that regulatory bodies are calling on the gambling industry to stamp out sexism. There is an obvious underrepresentation of females in the gaming community, but that seems to be coming to a close rather rapidly.

One problem with the gambling arena is that it likes to objectify women. In fact, many women that work in gambling are expected to wear only swimsuits to events. With gambling becoming more widely accepted and legalized, regulatory bodies are working hard to stamp out sexism in the industry and make it a more equal territory that everyone can enjoy.

Gaming Goods

Since the invention of Pong, most of the people who play games of any kind are male. The whole gaming industry is predominantly male, from the creators, to the players, to the businessmen who tally the profits. This bias only further perpetuates the gap, as the male-dominated arena gets less and less appealing for females as the bias gets worse.

That is why instead, many savvy entrepreneurs in the gambling space have decided to make an effort to cater to this untapped marketplace. Female gamblers and gamers are pretty rare, but the gap is closing. That is because more and more inventive entrepreneurs are looking for ways to cater to a female audience.

Girls Only

One of the ways that gender equality is coming to the gambling industry is through the invention of casinos that are specifically designed for women. For instance, 888 ladies is a casino designed for women. The scheme and layout of the casino is very female friendly, with light, bubbly colors and a social, vibrant atmosphere. 888 ladies is especially known for its bingo, which is female oriented, and takes place in an online format that is casually friendly, but also safe.

Online gambling specifically has offered a lot of opportunity for females to engage in games they love without exposing themselves to a threatening and potentially unsafe environment.

So Why the Gap?

While the gambling industry is making big strides to include women, curious minds might wonder just why gambling became so male-oriented to start with. Here are some reasons gambling became male-oriented.

Risky Business – Statistically men are much more likely to engage in risky behavior, so this makes gambling more attractive generally for men.

Societal Pressures – Females typically have a lot more pressure and expectations put on them by society than men unfortunately. As a result, they have more responsibilities like motherhood in addition to their careers, so they historically had less free time to gamble.

These are only a couple factors that led to gambling becoming male-dominated. It is important to remember that these issues are being resolved, and women appear to have a bright future in the gambling industry.
