It’s a low-key day for Game Pass, as two games make their way to Game Pass that haven’t been particularly promoted. But they are here nonetheless, and one in particular has us dusting off our PipBoy.
What are those games? Well, they are Common’Hood (Cloud, Console and PC) and Insurgency: Sandstorm (PC).
Common’Hood on Game Pass
Common’Hood is the one that’s got us interested, as it takes a uniquely different look at the post-apocalypse. Rather than fighting zombies or romancing irradiated ghouls, you are rebuilding a community. Take them from poverty and misery to some semblance of civilisation.
This is a base-building and economy management simulator (?) where you have to do all of the community heavy-lifting. You are constructing amenities, farming for produce, researching new tech and eventually building it all up into some kind of post-Earth utopia. We won’t ask why no-one else is helping and everything is left to poor-old-you.
You can expect a review of Common’Hood very soon, as we hop onto Game Pass to give it a spin.
Play Insurgency: Sandstorm on Game Pass
For those of you with a PC, Insurgency: Sandstorm makes the transition. Xbox Game Pass owners have been enjoying this military shooter for some time, and now it’s the turn of the keyboard warriors.
Just don’t make the mistake of assuming that it’s as generic as its title. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Insurgency: Sandstorm, handing it a lofty 4.5/5 in review. We said “Insurgency: Sandstorm is a completely immersive experience. The level designs are fantastic, the simple gameplay is executed exquisitely, the level of customisation of characters and loadouts is various and the sound design is like nothing I’ve ever experienced. It could be a little neater in terms of visuals, and there are a few sound hiccups, but when something is this good, it’s easy to let that, and the lack of story mode or numerous game modes, slide.”
What else is coming to Game Pass?
In terms of the rest of July, we’re approaching the middle of the month which is when more titles are announced. But there’s still the prospect of Exoprimal on July 14th (Console, PC, Cloud). Then we have Techtonica (Game Preview – Console, PC, Cloud) and The Cave (Console, Cloud) on July 18th, followed by The Wandering Village (Console) on July 20th. The highly anticipated Venba (Console) launches on Game Pass Day One on July 31st. You can expect that list to get padded out by more announcements in a few days.
The leavers list is relatively sparse in comparison. On July 15th, we will be losing Exo One, PAW Patrol The Movie, and Spelunky 2.
