Hack and slash this May as City of Brass gets an Xbox One, PS4 and PC release date

-

Inspired by Arabian Nights and running as a first person rogue-lite adventure, City of Brass immediately looks interesting. When you find out that this adventure has been created by a team of BioShock veterans, then the interest levels should rise some more. Today we see the team at Uppercut Games announce the release date for City of Brass – and it won’t be long before you find yourself transported to a magical mythological metropolis.

Coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC come May 4th 2018, Cit of Brass follows a cunning thief who is on a heist to obtain fabled treasure hidden in the heart of some opulent ruins. With just a bullwhip and blade to hand, it’ll be up to you to hack-and-slash (or lash-and-slash should you prefer), through the numerous legions of damned souls that haunt the legendary labyrinth, all whilst pilfering relics and other riches contained within its walls.

No two runs will feel the same though and City of Brass’ rhythmic interplay gives the experience of a truly fluid feeling as melee bleeds into movement. Shifting streets will ensure that you use your knowledge from previous runs to press on further in order to claim the city’s ultimate prize, whilst the versatile whip is used not only to disarm, trip, and stun enemies but to also swing to safety or obtain objects that would otherwise be out of reach.

But it is this whip which also has the ability to turn City of Brass’ dangerous environment against itself, allowing users to wield it to manipulate hazards from a safe distance and spring deadly traps on unsuspecting enemies.

To ensure the challenge is tailored to all players, City of Brass features a Blessings & Burdens system, which can make the experience much easier or do quite the opposite. This system brings in optional modifiers that can tweak everything from player health and damage output to item costs, ensuring things are tuned to every gamers needs and desires. With Mixer integrated, this system allows viewers to interact with live-streamers by griefing them with additional enemy spawns or helping out with extra gold or healing items.

“City of Brass is a fast-paced hack-and-slash adventure leaping from the pages of Arabian Nights,” said Ed Orman, co-founder and designer, Uppercut Games, “We hope players will enjoy plundering the city for its treasures when the game launches this May.”

We will of course be sure to remind you when City of Brass hits home, but for now you could do a ton worse than check out the trailer below.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
