Shantae Half-Genie Hero may have been with us for a few months now, but as with any other game we enjoy, the sound of new content to a beloved title is music to our ears. Today the tune is playing at its loudest as Shantae Half-Genie Hero is not only receiving new content, but it’s entirely free and available to everyone!
As outlined over on the Shantae Half-Genie Hero official Kickstarter page, the new update 1.01 will include something a little more than just bug fixes, which there is set to be lots of (although we didn’t see a single bug in our playthrough). Alongside the various fixes comes the arrival of a previously hidden game mode for players of Shantae’s latest adventure to enjoy – Hardcore Mode.
Whilst those that played through the latest title in the past few months will surely tell you of a few challenging moments the game already holds, there will definitely be plenty who are happy with the latest addition to what may well be one of the best titles we’ll see this year.
Although Shantae Half-Genie Hero was hardly lacking in content, with an entirely fresh mode to playthrough upon completion for those looking to test their speed-running skills already available, Hardcore Mode brings an entirely fresh feeling to the game which has slowly started to creep away from the classic genre in recent years – a tough as nails, challenging experience.
In Hardcore Mode, players will feel the burn as enemies hit harder, have entirely different patterns and move much faster across their patterns too. On top of this, enemy locations will differ from that of the normal playthrough meaning those that have become all too familiar with the game will be required to relearn everything once more. Learning won’t be enough though as there will also be tons of new enemies to contend with whilst you’re forced to manage a maximum allowance of just six healing items. Finally, Hardcore Mode will see all Shantae’s magic abilities re-balanced and as well as entirely new stats and attacks, and patterns for each of the various bosses found throughout the land.
