When Remedy Entertainment released Control in its original form back in August of 2019, it cemented the status of a studio capable of many great things. It may not have been a perfect gaming experience but for many it was a game like no other. Now though it’s here in full-on, proper next-gen form with release as the Control Ultimate Edition on Xbox Series X|S and PS5. If you haven’t played Control previously, now is the time to get involved – this is a game that should well be found making the most of that next-gen power.
Yes there may have been a bit of controversy surrounding how we are getting to this Xbox Series X|S and PS5 version of Control Ultimate Edition – after-all, being asked to stump up extra cash AND discovering that previous saves from old-gen won’t work, may rile many – but if that ensures that Control is the best that it can be, so be it.
Available to purchase and download from the relevant stores this minute – Xbox Store and PlayStation Store – Control Ultimate Edition for Xbox Series X|S and PS5 sees the Control dev team and those at Remedy and 505 Games bring the Oldest House to life once more, this time with all the trimmings you’d expect. That means Jesse Faden’s adventure will come with greatly improved load times, better frame rates, higher resolutions and, thankfully, less stuttering from the pause menu – something that saw our original review of Control on Xbox One drop down a notch.
Provided as a digital release for now – with full physical launch occurring on March 2nd 2021 – this next-gen offering includes the stunning base game along with the additions of The Foundation and AWE expansions in one superb package.
You’ll also get the chance to choose between running things in Performance Mode or Graphics Mode, with Xbox Series X and PS5 versions capable of hitting 60fps performance with 1440p render resoultion and 4K output in the former, and 30fps with ray tracing in the latter. Those limited to Xbox Series S will find the Performance mode allows Control to run at 60fps, no ray tracing, 900p and 1080p output. Honestly though, numbers aside, it’s going to look great. Control will hopefully play great in Ultimate Edition next-gen guise too.

Lol, yeah harness that power of series s, 900p resolution and NO RAY TRACING option. Xbots are in for a world of failure this gen when their exclusives have to be catered to this awful console.
And it doesn’t stop there, PS5 will end up with even MORE than double the games Xbox has like with PS4 and Xbone last gen. Because developers will be delighted to be able to avoid making a game on Xbox because of series s. Microsoft made it such an easy decision.
Happy February, Andrew. Have a great month ahead!
