In Mortal Shell, their flesh is your armor. And if that’s not a line that sells interest into the newest Souls-like experience to be promised to Xbox One, PS4 and PC players, then I don’t know what is.

Previously running under the guise of DungeonHaven, Mortal Shell will be coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC in Q3 2020, as the team of industry veterans made up of some AAA developers at Cold Symmetry give it a first reveal. With publishing rights handled by Playstack, Mortal Shell is looking likely to deliver an uncompromising, authentic, and hauntingly beautiful action-RPG that has been built upon the ruthless traditions of the Soulslike genre.

It is the eye-opening world premier trailer that we are viewing today, with it featuring a sample of its exquisitely crafted worlds, fearsome combat, and menacing foes, which can be seen for the very first time.

Produced by a core team of just 15 people – 15 people who have previously been credited with working on some of the biggest AAA titles to date – Mortal Shell was only made possible due to the team’s pedigree and burning desire to honor the painful majesty of the genre.

“For a small team like ours, developing this title in many ways felt like crossing an ocean on a paddle board,” the studio’s three co-founders — Andrew McLennan-Murray, Anton Gonzalez, and Vitaly Bulgarov — said in a joint statement. “To finally announce Mortal Shell is one of the most exciting and terrifying experiences we’ve had in our lifetimes. The last two years have been a time of non-stop growth, full of shocking revelations of sheer complexity that goes into creating a video game that you, yourself, would really enjoy playing.”

So, kick back, fire up the reveal trailer below and let us know what you think of this latest Soulslike affair. We will of course bring you more details as and when they arrive in the weeks and months ahead. If you wish to experience the game early though then you can sign up to a limited closed beta by following this link.

If however you’re not quite ready to kick Dark Souls into the long grass, we highly advise you to check out the games that pushed the genre to the next level.
