Imp of the Sun lights up the Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC worlds

imp of the sun

Created by Sunwolf Entertainment before being pushed out to the wider world by the Fireshine Games team, Imp of the Sun arrives on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC, with hope of lighting up the worlds it hits.

Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC, Imp of the Sun is a 2D action platformer in which you’ll be left to explore the sprawling land ahead of you. It’s here where you’ll play as Nin, a little imp which has been created by the final burst of sun – your task will be to head out and attempt to restore that power, hoping that the world keeps clear of being plunged into darkness.

Priced at £15.74 from the Xbox Store (expect a similar price elsewhere), Imp of the Sun looks to be extremely delightful; a game full of colour and light. We hope it plays well too and will be sure to divulge all as our review of the game on Xbox Series X|S hits. It’s going to be helped that Imp of the Sun is a title that not just makes the most of the next-gen power of Xbox Series X|S, but if optimised too, as well as featuring Smart Delivery.

It’s not just about the glorious handcrafted world though. There’s a narrative to enjoy and a musical score that has been inspired by local cultures and traditions, performed by a live studio orchestra to boot – much like what we took in with the Game Music Festival which featured tunes from Cuphead and Ori (a game that Imp of the Sun has obviously been inspired by).

In all, should you grab a copy of Imp of the Sun on your favoured format (the Xbox Store link is here to ease you in), you’ll discover key features kicking in along the lines of…

  • ●      Ending the Eternal Eclipse – Stolen by the Four Keepers centuries ago and hidden in the distant corners of the empire, life cannot go on without the sun’s power. With its dying spark the sun creates Nin, sending him on an adventure to bring back the light and restore balance to the empire.
  • ●      Refining An Inner Fire – As a creature of the sun, Nin has the power of the sun at his fingertips. Perfect his skills in streamlined gameplay built for fluid movement and combo-based combat. Discover new abilities to become more powerful in an adventure across the sun’s empire to defeat the Four Keepers.
  • ●      Venturing Across a Stunning Peruvian-Inspired World – Discover the four corners of the empire, from the bright peaks of the Andean mountains and dense Amazonian jungles, to dry, blistering deserts and the dark depths of the underworld. Every land and creature was lovingly hand-drawn and crafted with detail, celebrating the civilizations that once roamed and ruled Peru.
  • ●      Exploring, Collecting and Learning – Our ancestors recorded their history through artifacts known as ‘quipus.’ Collect quipus to unveil the story behind the Eternal Eclipse, and find unique hidden items based on real relics from the Andean cultures. Explore the sun’s empire and defeat unique, punishing bosses in any order, each with their own complex mechanics and backstory.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
