It’s a Game Pass cull as tons of games leave the service

A Game Pass cull

We’re right in the middle of September, and that means it’s time to refresh Game Pass. With Game Pass Core kicking off, we see a bit of a cull in the main subscription service. In fact, there are absolutely tons of games leaving Game Pass today.

Upping, outing and being removed from service is all part of the Game Pass bag. It’s something that we fully acknowledge too, allowing the big dogs at Microsoft HQ to keep things fresh, continuing to please their Xbox and PC gamers.

But still, with any movement comes a tinge of sadness, especially when we see some cracking titles being removed from Game Pass. Today sees a bigger batch than normal being kicked out too. Let’s just hope that some of them return again some day.

What’s leaving Game Pass today?

September 15th 2023 will forever be known as the big Game Pass cull day. You see, today sees no less than 9 titles get removed, across Xbox and PC subscriptions. There’s some crackers in there too, like Sid Meier’s Civilization VI for instance.

For us, that’s probably the pick of the titles leaving today, if only because we reviewed Civilization VI extremely highly upon first release back in 2019, concluding our review with some high praise indeed…

“Civ VI is an absolutely fantastic game that is packed full of content. This is a game that you can pour hundreds of hours into, and still find rewarding gameplay and new strategies. Not to mention, it’s dangerously addictive. Clear your schedule for this one. Multi-hour gaming sessions have never gone by so fast.”

If you’ve not yet played Civ VI, we’d guess that the few hours you have left are going to be nowhere near enough for you to get a handle on things. Just pop to the Xbox Store and buy it outright instead. It’s THAT good.

Aragami 2 is gone too

We’re also going to lament the removal of Aragami 2 as well. We very much enjoyed hiding in the shadows with this one a few years back, more so as a deadly duo, ready to strike fear via some cooperative play. There were a few little issues, but Game Pass felt like being the best home for it. Still, give our review of Aragami 2 a read and you may well be convinced enough to give this one some of your cash…

“Aragami 2 is a great game, with issues. The gameplay is immense fun, takes on a whole other level with friends and there is something extremely satisfying about being able to do what you want, when you want it, in order to achieve the mission objective at hand. It isn’t perfect though, and seems to be missing that little bit of polish required to lift it to the top tier of gaming.”

There’s more! Much more!

Whilst Civ VI and Aragami 2 are our biggest loses, the cull today is so big that we can’t possibly go in-depth with each game. Just be known that today also sees the removal of Amazing Cultivation Simulator (PC) and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony Anniversary Edition (Cloud, Console, and PC). And then also DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventure of Krypto and Ace (Cloud, Console, and PC), Fuga: Melodies of Steel (Cloud, Console, and PC) and Metal Hellsinger (Cloud, Console, and PC) – okay, okay, that’s another we’re really going to miss.

We round things out with the two Ts getting shifted – Tainted Grail: Conquest (Cloud, Console, and PC) and Train Sim World 3 (Cloud, Console, and PC). But really, are you going to miss Train Sim World 3 now that you have Train Sim World 4 on the horizon?

What’s new for Game Pass?

September is a little short on new Game Pass additions. Obviously we’ve had Starfield as the biggy for the year, and PAYDAY 3 is incoming to the service soon. But otherwise we’re stil waiting on confirmation of any further really big hitters. The Lamplighters League is probably our next most anticipated, but that’s early October.

For now, it’s all about the leavers from Game Pass. What will you be missing the most? Let us know down in the comments.
