We knew they were coming but a surprise announcement at the recent Nintendo Direct confirmed that Final Fantasy IX was arriving immediately! Not just on the Switch but also Xbox One and Windows 10 through Xbox Play Anywhere.
Final Fantasy IX is set in the world of Alexandria and tells the story of Zidane, a member of the Tantalus Theatre Troupe who plan to kidnap the princess and heir to the throne, Garnet Til Alexandros XVII. Little do they know, she was planning to run away – and request a much easier to remember name – from her mother, Queen Brahne.
Their tale takes them on a tour of the world as they uncover the truth behind Queen Brahne and her plans, whilst teaming up with one of the best supporting case that Final Fantasy has ever seen.
This isn’t just a simple port of the original PlayStation game though; some new features have made their way to the Xbox One. Character models and cutscenes are now in full HD, there is an autosave feature so you don’t need to wait until the next Moogle shows up before saving and there are now 7 boosters to enhance your game. These can speed the game up, eradicate the random encounters, increase attack damage, max out Gil and more!
But this still remains faithful to the original version of the game that launched back in 2000 and all other features remain including the Trance gauge, item synthesis and the card game Tetra Master.
Final Fantasy IX is available to download from the Xbox Store right now priced at £16.99 and is boosted by the fact it features Xbox Play Anywhere capabilities. If this one doesn’t sound up your street then fear not, as Final Fantasy VII was also confirmed to be coming to Xbox One on 26th March. It’s going to be a busy few months for Final Fantasy fans.
