Last Resort and Samurai Shodown add to the Xbox One ACA NEOGEO library

-

Latest Reviews

From the moment we first saw Turf Masters and Metal Slug appear on the Xbox One Games Store a couple of months back, we never thought that the whole Neo Geo library would be coming to Xbox One. But slowly and surely it seems that is becoming the case as two more titles rock up.

Available right now on Xbox One are both ACA NEOGEO Last Resort and ACA NEOGEO Samurai Showdown. Priced at the usual NEO gaming price of £6.39, these two games have both been faithfully recreated to allow those who enjoy a bit of retro action the chance to head down memory lane. With a variety of game setting options – including the ability to amend the difficulty levels – and some high score leaderboards in place, if you were a fan of either Last Resort or Samurai Shodown back in the day, or just want to see what all the fuss was about, then the Xbox Games Store will be able to sort you out.

With Last Resort dropping some shoot ’em up mechanics amid a whole host of hardcore weaponry and Samurai Shodown pretty much doing what you would expect of a SNK fighting game from 1993, you can be sure to find a decent amount of variety in the two titles.

Whether that means you should pick them up or not is completely up to you though.

Last Resort Game Description:

“LAST RESORT” is a shoot ‘em up game released by SNK in 1992. Players can use weapons such as laser, homing, or grenades which can be powered up as many as three times, along with a “unit” that can nullify enemy bullets and attack foes. Using these abilities and many other attacks players will fight in order to win the war between robots and humanity. The “ACA NEOGEO” series has faithfully reproduced many classic NEOGEO masterpieces. Players can change various game settings such as game difficulty, and also reproduce the atmosphere of arcade display settings at that time. Players can also compete against each other from all over the world with their high scores. Please enjoy the masterpiece that built a generation for video games.

Samurai Shodown Game Description:

“SAMURAI SHODOWN” is a fighting game that was originally released by SNK in 1993. The game features 12 swordmasters, each with their own unique personality. They will battle it out among each other before taking on Shiro Tokisada Amakusa in the game’s climax. One of the unique characteristics of this game is the Rage Gauge which fills up as the player takes damage. Once that gauge is full the character’s attacks do more damage, keeping the battles tense and exciting.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
