It is the JRPG that, for many gamers in their 20’s and 30’s, started their love affair with the whole genre. And now it is available for a new generation of gamers on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch for the very first time. Yep, Final Fantasy VII is here!
Originally releasing on PlayStation way back in 1997, Final Fantasy VII revolves around Cloud Strife, a former member of SOLDIER – an elite group of warriors working under the Shinra Corporation. Shinra have been siphoning off the planet’s very own life force and storing it in Mako reactors. Cloud joins rebel group Avalanche, who take it upon themselves to destroy these reactors.
Widely regarded as one of the best games of all-time, Final Fantasy VII helped popularise JRPGs in the West with its’ blend of turn-based battles, switch from 2D sprites to 3D models, phenomenal soundtrack and iconic characters such as Cloud, Aerith Gainsborough and Sephiroth. Even non-players know of the one classic moment involving Aerith and Sephiroth that the game has become known for, but now players can experience the rest of the story featuring the rest of the cast including Vincent Valentine, Tifa Lockhart and Barrett Wallace.
New features for the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch release of FFVII include 3x speed, battle enhancements to make them easier, or the ability to turn them off altogether so you can simply enjoy the story at your own pace.
Final Fantasy VII is available to download right now from the Xbox Store, priced at £12.79. Stay tuned to TheXboxHub over the next few days as we will have another Let’s Play of the opening moments – much like our Final Fantasy IX one – and a full review coming soon after.
As always, let us know in the comments your memories of the game and whether you intend to buy this absolute classic!
The world has fallen under the dominion of the Shinra Electric Power Company, a sinister corporation that has monopolized the planet’s very life force as Mako energy. In the urban megalopolis of Midgar, an anti-Shinra rebel group calling themselves Avalanche have stepped up their campaign of resistance. Cloud Strife, a former member of Shinra’s elite SOLDIER unit now turned mercenary, lends his aid to the rebels, unaware that he will be drawn into an epic battle for the fate of the planet, while having to come to terms with his own lost past. This game is a port of the original FINAL FANTASY VII. The following extra features are included; ◆ 3x speed mode ◆ Ability to turn battle encounters off ◆ Battle enhancement mode
