It’s safe to say that visual novels have taken off in a big way over recent years, with a whole multitude of offerings available in the genre, giving players the chance to sit down, controller in hand, and take in a number of wonderful tales. But perhaps none of them have been able to deliver the ultimate tale, until now, as Cinders comes to Xbox One and PS4.

Available to purchase and download on Xbox One and PS4, Cinders is a mature take on the age-old Cinderella tale, taking a look at four women, what made them, and who they are. This is proper fairy tale stuff, delivering a narrative that focuses on freedom, dreams, sisterhood and the opportunity to find our what happens when you live happily ever after.

Priced at ÂŁ17.99, Cinders comes about via the developers at MoaCube together with the team at Crunching Koalas – they of previous launches of the excellent Darkwood and Project Warlock – to provide gamers with a real ‘damsel in distress’ tale; one that just so happens to be complete with multiple endings, more than 100 decision points and upwards of 300 choices to make.

Features include:

  • A mature take on the classic fairytale story
  • Hand-drawn artwork and an original soundtrack
  • Meaningful and impactful choices
  • A strong and witty female protagonist.

Previously available on Nintendo Switch and PC, you can grab Cinders right now from the Xbox Store for Xbox One and the PlayStation Store for PS4. Should you need tempting in first, prior to dropping that asking price, keep an eye out for our full review. It’ll be with you in the coming days.

Game Description:

A mature take on Cinderella that’s all about player choices and shaping the famous fairy tale in any way you like. Cinders is a witty young woman living with an overbearing stepmother and her two daughters, as if she was reenacting a certain well-known fairy tale. But unlike its protagonist, Cinders is not afraid of taking fate into her own hands. Even if it means breaking the rules… The game takes a look at four women and what made them who they are. It’s a story about freedom, dreams, sisterhood, and finding your own Happily Ever After that may not exactly agree with the stale morals of classic fairytales. With multiple endings, 120 decision points, and over 300 choices, Cinders gives you total control over the main character’s personality and how her story unfolds.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
