Walking Simulators get a bit of a bad rap. Some see their lack of interaction and actual ‘gameplay’ to be a bit of an issue. Others need more in their gaming lives than slow meanders through a mystery world. More still though absolutely love them – if you fall into that latter camp then the thought-provoking walking simulator stylings of Lucid Cycle is going to be for you.

Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch, Lucid Cycle is the latest to come out of the eastasiasoft stable. Created by the visionary Tonguç Bodur, this is sold as an exploration of dreams, one that is told through a series of interactive vignettes.

Soothing and thought-provoking, Lucid Cycle plays with concepts that are common to our everyday dreams, with the player taking these ideas in via the medium of puzzle and purpose. It plays out in a first person perspective, leaving you to try to understand what is required in order to progress.

It all sounds a bit good if we’re honest and when you take into account the £5.79 asking price, should be safe in the knowledge that it’s a punt you may well be able to take. Alternatively, hold tight for our full review of Lucid Cycle on Xbox Series X|S – we’ll be sure to let you know how it plays out.

You’ll find Lucid Cycle available from the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. It’s also available to download on PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch.

Game Description:

Journey through a series of unique and puzzling vignettes that unfold into a deeper abstract narrative! Sleep has the power to transport us to wonderfully enigmatic places, sometimes frightening and often unexpected. Lucid Cycle is an exploration of the concepts and experiences common to our dreams, whether it’s solving environmental puzzles without a clear purpose or journeying through a shifting landscape without knowing the final destination. Sometimes we might find ourselves in familiar places with unfamiliar circumstances or vice versa, but is there a greater meaning behind it all? Presented in a first-person perspective, Lucid Cycle casts you as the dreamer, exploring a series of short yet vivid scenarios. Make sense of each to transport yourself to the next scene. You may need to locate a hidden object, leap across platforms suspended in space or retrace your steps to find your way forward. None of these vignettes are the same, but they’re all paint on the same tapestry.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
