Where do gangsters go when they die? They don’t go to heaven where the angels fly. It’s the year of remakes with the likes of Resident Evil 3 and Final Fantasy VII garnering great success earlier. Releasing today on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, Mafia Definitive Edition is the latest addition to the growing catalogue of remade classics.
Developed by Hangar 13, Mafia Definitive Edition transports you back to the Great Depression of 1930s America. It’s a reimagined and remade version of the crime classic with all of the niceties that come with it. That means revamped visual fidelity, new assets and story elements, and a classic difficulty setting among many other improvements.
Like the renowned 2002 original, Mafia takes place in the Chicago-inspired fictional city of Lost Heaven. Explore a vast metropolis on foot or driving one of the era-defining vehicles and prepare to be engrossed in an unforgettable crime drama. Cab driver Tommy Angelo finds himself at the wrong place at the wrong time and gets dragged into the world of organized crime. As Tommy, you’ll join the ranks of the Salieri crime mob and complete assignments on their behalf.
Old, beloved characters including trusty pals Paulie and Sam will lead you through a narrative that would make even Scorsese nod in revering approval. In addition to the main story, Mafia Definitive Edition lets you partake in a wide range of optional activities, such as street races in classic sports cars. Let’s hope there’s plenty to do and find this time around.
Mafia Definitive Edition is available as a standalone game on the Xbox Store for £34.99. It also comes as a part of the Mafia Trilogy which at £49.99 is joined by remastered versions of Mafia II and Mafia III released earlier in the year. The trailer down below should give you a good idea of the game’s visual fidelity and story.
