Neverwinter provides a world that keeps on growing, expanding, evolving. And the latest major update to hit the game on Xbox One and PS4 is that of Avernus – and it’s available right now.

Coming from Perfect World Entertainment and Cryptic Studios, Neverwinter: Avernus is the next instalment to the free-to-play action MMORPG; one that is based on the acclaimed Dungeons & Dragons franchise. Continuing and concluding the events of the previous major update Infernal Descent, the Avernus update sends players deeper into the infernal depths of the wastelands of Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells.

Following on from the events of Infernal Descent, the previous major update for Neverwinter, it’s now time to head across the wastelands of Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells. In it you’ll stumble upon the remains of the Vallenhas stronghold, meeting Lulu, a curious hollyphant and Archdevil Zariel’s old companion. With a locked infernal puzzle box in your possession, Lulu offers aid in opening it; the only problem is, she has lost her memories and the only hope of restoring them is by embarking on an odyssey through Avernus. And it is here where you’ll be likely to team up with two companions: Makos and the opportunistic merchant, Mahadi.

As you explore the sprawling Adventure Zone of Avernus, you’ll find yourself fighting through hordes of demons and devils, all before challenging the powerful ruler of Avernus, Archdevil Zariel. This promises to deliver one hell of an epic journey, as you also take part in the brand new Path of the Fallen campaign. Do so and you will earn new rewards, drive infernal war machines and experience how your actions directly impact and evolve the world of Avernus.

You can grab Neverwinter right now on Xbox One, PC and PS4, with it free-to-play across all formats. Let us know in the comments if you’ll be dropping in now that Avernus is on console. And if you do play Neverwinter, keep an eye on TheXboxHub for some very interesting, hugely exciting news in the days ahead. Believe me, you’ll not want to miss it.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
