New Ride or Die: Mounts for World of Warcraft Battle for Azeroth

-

Other than new content and mechanics, as well as tweaks in gameplay and classes, a lot of World of Warcraft players look forward to new mounts. And why wouldn’t they? MMORPG players love flaunting their looks, after all, and WoW mounts are an extension of that. Think of it as the Azerothian analogue of showing off your super-hot sportscar, and a new mount for a new expansion is akin to a new model fresh off the assembly line. And for Battle of Azeroth, it’s going to be these whips that will have the spotlight.

Depends On Your Allegiance

Chief among the new mounts would be the Mag’har Orc Allied Race Mount, the Mag’har Direwolf. The Mag’har Orcs are not the Mag’har Orc Clan from Nagrad. Rather, they are a group of uncorrupted orcs from the alternate universe Draenor, where Grom did not drink the Blood of Mannoroth. In addition to that, the Grom of this alternate universe also seeks to unify other uncorrupted Orc clans.

Now, back to the topic at hand, from the Mag’har Orc Clan comes the Mag’har Direwolf. In true blue Orc tradition dating back to Warcraft III, Orcs will be riding a hot, new, big, black direwolf that has a saddle with that signature spiky, bony Orc aesthetic. Obviously, this will be a race-specific mount that is tied in to the lore.

On the other hand, if you’re a Night Elf, then you can get your hands on the Hippogryph Mount. Remember Warcraft III, in which you could train hippogryphs and have them be mounted by Night Elf archers? Well, now you can mount them regardless of class.

But when it comes to the sheer number of faction-exclusive mounts, the winner at the moment would be the Horde. Aside from the Mag’har Direwolf, they’ll have the Undercity Plaguebat. It will most likely be related to the Battle for Lordaeron. Regardless of its connection to Azerothian history, it’s a really cool mount thanks to its wings. It’s going to be a must-have for undead players, really.

Bizarre, Prehistoric, and Classic

Now let’s go to unique but non-faction-exclusive mounts. There’s the Underrot Crawg Harness, which will be a drop from the Unbound Abomination, the final boss of the Underrot Dungeon. It can also be obtained from the cache as the reward for finishing the dungeon in Mythic + difficulty. It looks like a strange, misshapen underground bipedal creature with two huge tusks on its face. Grotesque? Definitely; so much so that it’s very likely for it to be a runaway crowd favorite upon release.

However, if you’re not a big fan of that and instead prefer dinosaurs, then there’s the Zandalari Direhorn, which looks like a purple Triceratops with a golden throne for a seat. On the other hand, if you want a dinosaur mount but aren’t too keen on having an herbivore for a ride, then you might fancy the Mummified Raptor Skull. This steed, which, as the name suggests, is a mummified raptor with a few adornments on it. It’s dropped from Dazar, the final boss of the King’s Rest dungeon.

Last, but definitely not least, the classic: horses. In Battle for Azeroth, there are going to be six new colors of horses. There’s white, brown with white spots and socks, light brown, black, midnight black with a white stripe down the middle of its face, and white. With so many horses to choose from, it’s up to you which one you’re going to go with. Make sure it matches with your character’s looks and color scheme.

There are a lot of other World of Warcraft Mounts not covered in this post. But given how good the mounts included here are, it should be obvious that Blizzard stepped up their game when it comes to mount design. Hopefully they did the same in everything else for the expansion.
