For the constant march of the online world, there will always be a place for the humble bookshop. At least, most bookshops. After picking up some decent acclaim after launch in China, it’s now time for Hermitage to open its doors across the West with the arrival of Strange Case Files on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC.

Available to purchase and download today on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam, Hermitage: Strange Case Files will see you opening the Pandora’s Box of the Paranormal as it delivers a gripping, dark story to gamers.

Coming from the Giiku Games team, the paranormal horror of Hermitage: Strange Case Files offers up a rather unique brand of mystery, all mixed with eccentricity and full localisation for a global audience. Twisting and turning to good effect, Hermitage is a peculiar little bookshop that sits on a lonely corner. It’s here that is home to a real strange collection of books – and a stranger collection book worms…

“We were really excited to work with Chinese developer Arrowiz and Hermitage: Strange Case Files exemplifies just why – it’s a captivating mystery tied to the kind of deep, multi-branching narrative that’s quickly become the studio’s signature,” says Rinalda Faraian, Product Manager at Giiku Games. “Every line of dialogue, every word in the script, carries weight, which is why we’ve worked so hard to make sure these localised versions do Arrowiz’ work  justice.”

Hermitage: Strange Case Files will cause its protagonist to question the lines between fantasy and reality, as players take on the role of a bookshop owner, a former anthropology professor who has strangely never been seen outside of Hermitage. With the help of a hacker genius on the run, a self-proclaimed detective and a short-tempered legal consultant, players will need to get to the bottom of a series of horrific incidents, taking on the supernatural horrors that lurk between the pages of Hermitage’s weird and wonderful book collection. Yep, Hermitage is weird.

The key features of what looks to play out include:

  • A unique adventure with a multi-layered story and a visual novel style
  • Interviews with characters where choosing the approach that matches their personality serves up important leads
  • Clues discovered through TV news, online forums, phone messages and emails
  • Analyze characters and events using an interactive pinboard
  • Investigate character backstories to discover secrets
  • Match your intel with your suspicions to uncover the truth
  • Take your adventure on a new path by unlocking various storylines with your choices

Our full review is up, live and ready for your perusal. Give it a read and then head to the digital store of your choice. We’d advise the Xbox Store for obvious reasons. Let us know where and how you grab this one though.

Game Description:

WELCOME TO HERMITAGE! But beware: Ye who enters here might start questioning reality as they know it… Investigate mysterious cases by taking on the role of a less than motivated bookshop owner, a former anthropology professor who for unknown reasons has never been seen outside of his bookstore. With the help of a hacker genius on the run, a self-proclaimed detective and a short-tempered legal consultant, you must get to the bottom of a row of horrific incidents, bearing in mind the supernatural horrors that lurk within the pages of Hermitage’s Lovecraftian book collection.

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
