Party like it’s 1991 with Commander Keen in Keen Dreams: Definitive Edition on Xbox

If you were techy enough to make use of MS-DOS way back in the early ‘90s, then you may remember a certain Commander Keen, who managed to star in a whopping eight titles for the DOS system, and later the Game Boy Colour. Don’t remember this ginger kid and his adventures? Don’t worry, the video game industry doesn’t seem to either, with many Commander Keen titles going down as ‘lost’ games.

Well, some determined developers don’t want this to be the case, and are remastering Commander Keen in Keen Dreams – the fourth instalment into the franchise – onto Xbox in Definitive Edition. This side-scroller has you immersed into a dream of Commander Keen’s (also known as Billy Blaze) that involves fighting off massive personified vegetables. Well, we’ve all had stranger dreams, I’m sure…

With twelve brand new levels, as well as full widescreen support for your huge TVs, 60fps gameplay and a brand new music score, Commander Keen in Keen Dreams: Definitive Edition has a run-time more than double that of the original release, so is well worth your time either as a Commander Keen super-fan, or indeed someone looking for a brand new side-scroller to sink your teeth into.

The Definitive Edition of this title also boasts of a completely revamped gameplay structure that brings the game in line with modern times, whilst still maintaining that Commander Keem comedy and charm that was loved back in the day.

So, fancy helping out Keen / Billy Blaze fight off his veggie demons, in perhaps the strangest side-scroller to come out in recent years? Or perhaps you just want to help out the revival of a game seemingly lost to time. Well, if you do, then you can pick up Commander Keen in Keen Dreams: Definitive Edition on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One – just head over to the Xbox Store where it costs just £3,99.

You’ll find the game on Nintendo Switch from the Nintendo eShop too.

Game Description:

Commander Keen is back. In the modernised Definitive Edition of the lost episode “Keen Dream”, Keen has to fend off a nasty nightmare about evil vegetables. The Definitive Edition features full widescreen support, twelve all-new levels – doubling the length over the 1990 original – and a full music score. The game structure has been reworked to make the game a more modern experience without sacrificing any of the original charm!

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
