Back in December 2019 Team 17 dropped the news that they were working on a brand new survival experience, one that came out of experimentation with the brilliant formula found in The Escapists. Well, finally we’ve got a release date for The Survivalists and if you’re looking to play it on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PC, or Apple Arcade, you won’t have to wait too much longer.
Coming to Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC on October 9th 2020, with an Apple Arcade date still to be totally confirmed,The Survivalists is Team17’s next big iteration to The Escapists universe. Set in the same worlds, it will see players transported off to a desert island fantasy land, before being left to train monkeys as companions, and get involved in all manner of survival and crafting opportunities. Why? Well, to become a Survivalist, of course.
With pre-orders opening right now on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, should you wish to reserve your ticket to the procedurally-generated island paradise, then you will receive cosmetic extras to enjoy either solo, or with up to three friends in local and online co-operative multiplayer. These come in the form of the Monkey Business downloadable content pack, which provides players with additional accessories for their stranded characters (the exclusive Straw Hat, The Escapists Guard Hat, and Unicorn Hat) alongside six more hats for their monkey mates (Top Hat, Lumberjack Hat, Chef Hat, Crown, Hard Hat, and Pirate Hat).
Key Features of The Survivalists include:
- Play together and survive: Up to four players can join forces to explore the world of The Survivalists, helping each other out to stay alive
- Get crafty and be inventive: Various items great and small can be crafted, from weapons to tools and buildings to keep your crew sheltered
- Automate with monkeys: Enlist the help of monkeys for a number of tasks, including protecting your group and gathering resources
- Curiosity is rewarded: Players are encouraged to explore their surroundings, where they’ll encounter dangerous wildlife, mythical enemies, and tantalising secrets.
Island life has never looked so tempting than with The Survivalists and so if you are tempted we highly recommend you head over to your favoured store and consider dropping in a little pre-order. If you wish to sample the easy life for yourself and have access to a Nintendo Switch or PC capable of running Steam, then demos are both available. Otherwise you’ll have to hold tight until that October 9th release date.
We’ll be sure to remind you when that rolls into play but for now, the trailer below will sort you out.
