layers of fear 2 review xbox one 2

It was back in 2016 that we first saw Bloober Team release the original Layers of Fear to the unsuspecting Xbox One public. Thankfully we’ve had 3 years to recover from the stresses and strains it created prior to the release today of the sequel – Layers of Fear 2 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Available for full purchase and download right now on Xbox One, PS4 and PC (Steam), Layers of Fear 2 sees the spotlight fall as you play out the role of an actor as they land on a cruise ship, unaware of the horrors which lie before them.

Running with a price tag of £24.99, should you be into psychological thrills or can’t get enough of horrors from within, then Layers of Fear 2 will certainly provide plenty of action, atmosphere and intensity. Much like the first game, the immersion you’ll feel when running through Layers of Fear 2 is unlike that found in many others, and whilst interactivity and gameplay skills needed will be at a minimum, walking around the space ahead, running for your life at many moments, will ensure that the depth and detail of this horror experience are pushed home at every opportunity.

Delivering a well scripted story to fall into, some pretty nifty visuals and great audio, Layers of Fear 2 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC will certainly deliver plenty of frights. Obviously that in turn may mean it isn’t going to be a game for everyone, but hey, you probably worked that bit out from the title alone.

“The anticipation is killing us as we’re on the verge of bringing you the sequel to our most successful game – Layers of Fear 2. It will be an uncanny experience for the players and we’re seriously counting hours to read and see what they think of it. It’s a sum of extremely hard work, vision and passion of the development team here in Bloober, but also the sweat and blood (horror, right?!) of Gun, who proved to be the best of the best with supporting us.” said Rafał Basaj, Brand Manager at Bloober Team. “I hope you all enjoy this madness trip of artistry, self-discovery and fear. Please enjoy the game!”

“When we partnered with Bloober Team over a year ago, we knew they had something special in Layers of Fear 2,” said Ismael Vicens, Senior Producer at Gun Media. “Our shared love of horror coupled with their craftsmanship gave all of us the passion, confidence, and drive needed to make this experience as terror-filled and impressive as we knew it could be. It’s been an honor to work with Bloober Team and help them present horror fans with their next masterpiece.”

Should you have the courage to check out Layers of Fear 2 then you can find a download available from the Xbox Store for Xbox One. Alternatively, PS4 and PC players can find it available on their usual stores.

Make sure you check out our full review of Layers of Fear 2 on Xbox One as well. We won’t spoil the tale ahead but you can be sure our thoughts will swing a purchase your way.

Game Description:

The cameras are all focused on you; the center of the scene. Not just in character, you are the character. The part to play is singularly yours. Written just for you.You are met with silence. No barking orders from the director. No call to action that you need to become this version of yourself. The demand to act fills your mind, but the script pages hold no words. Your past has helped to mold you into what you are, forced upon you the skills required to hone your craft. That same past has scraped deep furrowing scars into you, not on the outside where the world can see, but in a place buried so deep within that it has become shapeless. You push those memories down but let the experiences drive you into who, or what, you must play. Darkness surrounds as you stand silently in the spotlight, the only sounds to be heard over your heartbeat are the distant breaking of waves against the hull and the sound of cameras pointed in your direction preserving this moment for eternity. A deep and commanding voice rises from the distance. Act. What part will you play?

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
