Yep, it’s that time of the year again. The time when the sun starts shining, the bikes come out, the MAMILs hit the roads and the official videogame of the Tour de France arrives on PC and console.
Available right now on Xbox One and PS4, (with the even more exciting Pro Cycling Manager 2018 dropping on to PC), Tour de France 2018 promises to be the best, most in-depth, most exciting official videogame of the Tour de France ever. But let’s be honest, it won’t take much for that statement to come true.
But whilst previous TDF titles have struggled to really bang home the thrill of riding up and down the biggest mountains in France, allowing us all to pretend to ride like Chris Froome and co, this time round there is a real sense that Cyanide Studios and Focus Home Interactive will be able to deliver something special.
With Pro Leader being the brand new game mode that lets you create your own rider before taking him to the top step of the podium, and deeper simulation aspects like a new team Progression System, an improved Fitness Peak System for your riders, and a more aggressive and realistic AI all present, bike riders around the globe will no doubt be flocking to the official TDF 2018 routes that the game allows.
Of course, accompanying the release of Tour de France 2018 on console, we also see the PC version of the game drop – the more exciting Pro Cycling Manager 2018. This lets you step into the shoes of a team manager, taking in more than 200 races and 500 stages from around the world as you hire and fire riders, negotiate terms and press home the tactics needed to ensure your team comes out on top.
For us though, the chance to don the lycra and hop aboard a bike in Tour de France 2018 will have to make do. In order to get involved make sure you head to the Microsoft Store (or the PlayStation Store should that be your poison) and splash the £39.99 required. You may even be able to pick up a launch discount if you are quick.
If anything, it’s a hell of a lot cheaper than buying all the gear and being left with having no idea! Just dream of wearing that yellow jersey and all will be fine.
