The survival horror series Outbreak is making a big return on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S with a re-release of one of its earliest entries in the form of Outbreak: The New Nightmare Definitive Edition.
A co-op survival horror game, Outbreak: The New Nightmare can be played in both single player of locally with up to two players. Face off against hordes of the undead in Campaign mode, Onslaught or Experiments mode with a cast of customisable and upgradable characters. Campaign is a six-level story involving you escaping the city to the safety of the quarantine zone. Onslaught mode has you wandering around for supplies and attempt to survive for as long as possible. And Experiments mode puts unique challenges on the existing gameplay such as a blackout where your only source of light is a torch.
With a limited inventory and a health bar reminiscent of an electrocardiogram, Outbreak is a love letter to the classic Resident Evil games. That is right down to the tank controls too. But before classic survival horror fans dive into this one, have a quick read of our review of the original release.
However, this new version of Outbreak: The New Nightmare is now fully optimised for Xbox Series X|S. That means lovely 4K Ultra HD goodness for you to shoot some zombies in.
Available to download now, Outbreak: The New Nightmare Definitive Edition on Xbox is priced at £12.49. Dare you try and survive the Outbreak? Let us know in the comments below!
Game description
Enter an unforgiving co-op survival horror experience as you fight for your life against oppressive odds. The horrors of Arzt Memorial Hospital were just the beginning of the outbreak. As the infection spread across the city, local law enforcement fell quickly. You now find yourself trapped in a hellscape with only a few remaining survivors. Scavenge the environment for supplies, face off against the undead and do anything it takes to survive. Play the entire game either alone or in local splitscreen co-op. You only have one life. Make it count!
