Looking for a colourful adventure with a protagonist who has unique combat skills and platforming abilities? Then Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom may just be the game for you as it possesses all of that and more.

Having been developed alongside the creator of the original Wonder Boy in Monster World series, Ryuichi Nishizawa, some would say this is a kind of spiritual successor which borrows the best bits of those classics, while combining them with modern gameplay, gorgeous hand-drawn animations and throwing in memorable music to provide a fresh experience.

In Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom you play as Jin, a young boy whose mission it is to stop his Uncle Nabu from using magic to spread chaos throughout the Monster World Kingdom. To do so, challenging enemies must be defeated and hidden locations need to be discovered. Finding the magical weapons and upgrading Jin’s equipment is fundamental in succeeding, as is getting to grips with the six awesome transformations he can unlock. These include turning into a frog to swing using its tongue and becoming a snake to climb up the slimy surfaces.

If you wish to explore the vast interconnected environment of Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom and spend over 15 hours on this adventure, just head on over to the Microsoft Store to buy it for £31.99 on Xbox One. It’s also available for players to purchase on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch via their respective stores.
