Some hybrid game genres work well when on paper they absolutely shouldn’t. Others are so well suited to each other you are surprised when it doesn’t happen more often. That was the case with Thea: The Awakening that fused turn-based strategy in with a card game. It worked and was rightly praised. Today sees the sequel releasing. Thea 2: The Shattering is available now on Xbox.
Once again inspired by Slavic mythology, Thea 2 places you in the role of a deity from that roster. You are in control of a small band of believers who are struggling to survive in this harsh world. Through making decisions on their behalf, can you forge a path into the future for them?
Choose whether to play diplomatic or violently, curious or all conquering, any way you would like. Each playthrough will vary wildly thanks to procedurally generated environments.
Thea 2: The Shattering also brings co-operative multiplayer to the series for the first time for upto three players. Join forces with other gods and take over the world together. Or just make the world a better place. The choice is yours.
Thea 2: The Shattering is available to download now, priced at £16.74 on the Xbox Store. For those eager to purchase early, there is an introductory discount dropping the price down to £14.22. And if you missed out on the original – Thea: The Awakening – there is a bundle of both games now available, coming in at £28.49.
We will have a review coming soon of the sequel so stay tuned. For now, let us know in the comments how knowledgeable you are in terms of Slavic mythology.
Game description
Thea 2: The Shattering is a follow-up to the successful Thea: The Awakening, which brings the idea of innovative genre hybrid, with elements of turn-based, 4X strategy, survival, RPG and a card game, to entirely new and thoroughly polished level. The player takes on the role of a deity from the Slavic mythology-inspired pantheon and as such, controls the fate of a small flock of believers struggling for survival. This goal can be achieved in many ways, from diplomacy to war, from exploring to conquering, but any playstyle will surely lead to completely unique adventures thanks to the procedurally generated environments. Rich options, from crafting to town-building system, as well as the co-op multiplayer gameplay, make Thea 2 an ideal choice for tactically minded players, who are up for a challenge.
