Summon the power of the elements in Rivals of Aether right now on Xbox One

No, Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros may not be playable on Xbox One, but Rivals of Aether is shaping up to be a very good adaptation of it, with unique characters and visuals to boot.

Available right now on Xbox One, with both local and online players able to fight it out, Rivals of Aether is based around the elements of Fire, Water, Air and Earth that the warring civilisations summon. The various playable animalistic Rivals in the game will also use these elements to incorporate into their attacks in combination with their animal movements.

After coming out of the tutorial and practice sessions that Rivals of Aether helpfully have to offer, you can jump into the Story Mode, where you will be exploring the mysterious conflicts that have cropped up on the planet Aether, or you can take your skills online if you want to battle with other players. Furthermore, the Abyss mode promises some added challenges to complete, coming in the form of waves that you and some others can complete.

Visually, and Rivals of Aether prefers a colourful retro style as opposed to the shiny modern graphics that Super Smash Bros tends to offer. Whilst many of your fights may just descend into button mashing bouts that have no mercy on your fingers, Rivals of Aether is a nice little fighter that is great for a few quick matches with up to three sofa mates.

Rivals of Aether has been taking advantage of the Xbox Game Preview Program for a while now – but from today it has come out of the Preview Program. Pick it up on the Xbox One Store for £11.99. It is also available on PC.

There’s even some rather lovely Ori DLC you can get too.

Game Description:

Rivals of Aether is an indie fighting game set in a world where warring civilizations summon the power of Fire, Water, Air, and Earth. Play with up to four players locally or up to two players online.

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
