Ratalaika Games are at it again, filling the digital libraries of Xbox and PlayStation with fun little platformers that just so happen to come in with a low asking price. The latest is that of the next-gen exclusive, Mekabolt+. And yes, you may well have heard of that name before.
We’re not sure when we last saw a week go by without a Ratalaika Games release (think Kinduo or Gardener’s Path for instance), with the vast majority of the indie publishers’ titles dropping in with a super cheap price point. Mekabolt+ runs along that exact line, requesting Xbox Series X|S players to muster up a mere £4.99 for the playing privilege. It’ll be roughly that price on PlayStation 5 too.
But what exactly are we getting for our cash? Well, expect Mekabolt, but with more to it. Mekabolt+ (and it’s that + which is the definer here) drops us into a world in which the robots have gone haywire. It sees you taking on the role of a theme park technician who – with their trusty Mekabolt to hand – needs to head out and deactivate all those non-obeying bots.
Utilising platforms and working your way over obstacles is the main gaming mechanic on hand here, helping you get up close and personal with the renegade robots, manipulating them to allow you to reach your goal.
That theme is rinsed and repeated throughout 100 stages of platforming perfection, as you take in the colourful 2D pixel art and unique gameplay mechanics at hand. With extra challenges and a new character dropping in to play via the + version of Mekabolt, there certainly seems to be enough here to more than warrant a look.
We’ll be on the usual review train as soon as we can, detailing what is good, and bad, about Mekabolt+ in a full review. Stay tuned for that but in the meantime you can head to your favoured digital store and take in the download you need.
The Xbox Store will sort out Xbox Series X|S players – with this game being fully optimised for the next-gen console of PS5 too.
Game Description:
Mekabolt+ has additional 24 levels (challenges) with a new character. The robots have gone haywire! They stopped obeying orders. You can take the role of a theme park technician. With your handy Mekabolt, you can deactivate the robots. Use it to your advantage. Use them as platforms, ride them or use them to overcome obstacles. Don’t forget the batteries, you need to collect them to repair the robots and reach the end of the level. It doesn’t end there. Ever wondered what happens afterward? In the challenges, you take the role of the park owner. Armed with a necktie and a pair of gloves, he will also help retrieve batteries. The owner doesn’t shoot, though! He can pick up the crazy robots and move them like nothing! The robots can be manipulated to help you reach your goal. Watch out for dangerous traps waiting to impede your progress. Only you can save the day!
