Up Next – A look at the Xbox One and Xbox 360 games out in March 2016

-

We have managed to survive the barren winter months, and are slowly beginning to be rewarded with some marginally nicer weather…but the most important thing is March sees the introduction of some AAA retail games – although you may struggle to find much new if you’re still gaming on Xbox 360.

Mortal Kombat XL – Xbox One

Mortal Kombat X has been one of the most exhilarating, action packed, not forgetting gory, Mortal Kombat games to date. As is expected with a fighting game, NetherRealm have announced a bumped up version of the game which contains everything included in the original title, all previously released DLC content (that means all of the additional characters) and the Samurai Skin Pack.

But that’s not all! You can also get your hands on the four new murderous characters included in the latest content pack – the Xenomorph, Leatherface (from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre series of films), Triborg and Bo’Rai Cho.

Why Should You Buy It? If you are looking for that little bit more decapitation and blood splatters in your gaming experience then MKXL could just be the answer with all the cold-blooded killers packed into it.

The Division – Xbox One

Finally. Finally we can play The Division.

For around two years we have been waiting, but now, after The Division Beta, we can explore the world Tom Clancy has to offer. Who knew post-apocalyptic New York could be so fun?! Well, we certainly hope it will be.

Along with a few of your mates, you could step into the boots of a soldier in the crack squad known as the Division. Your task, among other things, is to save the open world of New York from complete desolation as there has been a disease spread throughout the Big Apple. So, pick up a gun, or many, and tackle the looters who are now destroying what was once a beautiful city!

But what makes The Division unique is the way to get the rarest, best weapons in the game. The Dark Zone is a completely PvP part of the map were the sole objective is to extract any loot found in this area by bringing it to an extraction point, where you then have to defend your position from the inevitable hoard of players attempting to get your stuff.

Why Should You Buy It? The Division has made the perfect blend of RPG and action adventure game, with engaging missions and a risk and reward system implemented into the game which keeps you coming back for more.

Alekhine’s Gun – Xbox One

The next in the Death to Spies series, Alekhine’s Gun is a third person stealth action game set during the Cold War with flashbacks to WW2. Alekhine’s Gun describes itself as a non-linear game similar to the Hitman line of games. You could choose to go all guns blazing, or play it stealthily – staging an ‘accident’ or tracking your target down and complete the hit with no witnesses.

Each of the 11 levels end in you getting graded on Noise and Accuracy to name a few, and you can earn points to purchase and upgrade weapons.

Why Should You Buy It? If you need something to satisfy you hunger for stealth and don’t want to go down the Hitman route, then Alekhine’s Gun should definitely do it.

Trackmania Turbo – Xbox One

Perfect for besting friends’ scores or simply having a quick five minute blast, bright, fun arcade racing games have risen well above many other arcade games – and one of these examples will be Trackmania Turbo, an easy to learn, hard to master racing game with primarily time trials to try to perfect. But to ensure repeated plays, TMT has included a track editor to train for those difficult levels or to bring one of your own track ideas to the game.

Why Should You Buy It? With over 200 colourful and crazy tracks to pick from, Trackmania Turbo will have your attention into the small hours of the night just trying. To. Beat. That. Time!

Lichdom: Battlemage – Xbox One

lichdom battlemage

Lichdom: Battlemage is a first-person action adventure RPG with a twist. Yes, lots of other games of the same genre allow your character to wield all sorts of magic to banish your foes, but with Lichdom your character, ‘the Dragon’, is on a quest through a linear world, coming complete with many different elements to his or her disposal, including fire, water and lightning to name a few. The catch? You can only have three magical ‘Sigils’ active at any given time, with you able to change your selection at any Reliquary (checkpoint) you reach.

Why Should You Buy It? The system Lichdom: Battlemage has in play is one of a simple nature, but should be extremely effective as you decide how to deliver justice to your enemies.

EA Sports UFC 2 – Xbox One

Now, I don’t know an awful lot about mixed martial arts but do know of Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor. I also know a fair old bit about EA Sports and how they have listened to feedback from the previous UFC title, adapting things for the new game.

New features include a KO mode which focuses on precision strikes more than timed grapples, and a new physics system which realistically adjudicates how much damage a player has taken depending on the momentum on the strike and how much power was put into it. The biggest and most noticeable change is in the Career Mode with the addition of playable female fighters. Also, as is par with EA Sports titles nowadays, UFC 2 has an ‘Ultimate Team’ where you can take five characters and play around with them, adapting them to your liking and earning coins through matches.

Why Should You Buy It? EA Sports UFC 2 promises to be the most in depth, most all round mixed martial game there is out there… and let’s face it… there aren’t too many out there anyway.

Tropico 5 Penultimate Edition – Xbox One

tropico 5 header

If you ever had wanted to lead an island through the centuries then the chances are you would have played a Tropico title. Now you can experience what it is like to run the island of Tropico through the ages and cater for your people’s needs with Tropico 5 Penultimate Edition on Xbox One. This packed edition comes with the full Tropico 5 experience, with all its DLC packages. You, and your allies, have to lead the island through the toughest of times, the World Wars, the Cold War, modern times and further into the future. Renovate buildings, appoint managers. You are God.

Why Should You Buy It? T5PE lets you play God, but aside from the fun things you can do, there is a serious, hardcore side to it.

So that’s it for March 2016. It’s a month full of quantity and should ensure a great deal of quality hits home as well. Which will you be picking up? Let us know in the comments below.

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
