Xbox One and PS4 release dates confirmed for haunting 16-bit action adventure Anodyne

-

It’s being developed by US indie studio Analgesic, and should deliver a haunting 16-bit action adventure when it arrives. But when exactly will Anodyne be with us console players? Well, the release date has now been confirmed.

Coming to Xbox One and PS4, the award winning Anodyne will thrust us into the subconscious mind of Young, the game’s protagonist when it releases from 18th September 2018. It is on that date we will see Anodyne hit PS4 in the Americas, with a release in the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand on the 19th. Xbox One players across the globe will need to hold tight a few more days as Anodyne won’t be appearing on the Xbox Store until September 21st 2018.

Critically acclaimed tasks you with navigating the various natural, urban and abstract environments within Young’s innermost self, all in order to help sweep away demons, defeat enemies and solve Young’s personal puzzles. You will however only have one weapon – a trusty broom – and it is with this which you will be tasked with clearing out the dungeons, meander through Young’s own mind, and collect cards to advance further into the game as Young grows in confidence and ability. But for what reason? Well, to defeat the evil Briar who is trying to transform Young’s subconscious into total darkness.

Harking back to the classic 16-bit action-adventure genre, all whilst creating its own unique feel, Anodyne promises to incorporate a large overworld with many quirky, challenging dungeons filled with a variety of unusual enemies. This is overlaid with an unsettling musical score which adds to the feel of an uneasy, dreamlike experience.

Bruce Thomson, Business & Marketing Director at Nnooo says: “We were attracted to the unusual nature of Anodyne which is inspired by games like The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Yume Nikki while retaining its own other-worldly feel. There’s a brooding darkness to it which is juxtaposed with an irreverent sense of humour from some of the characters Young encounters. We felt it should be brought to console so a wider audience could experience its quirkiness.”

Sean Han Tani, Director at Analgesic says: “Thanks to Nnooo’s assistance, we’re finally bringing Anodyne to consoles! When starting work on Anodyne during college, we never thought that one day the game would be on consoles, so we’re thrilled that the dream is now a reality! We hope that you will enjoy the surreal, dark and dreamy world we’ve prepared from your PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.”

Anodyne is already available on PC, but will hit Xbox One and PS4 with US$9.99 and €9.99 prices attached. We’ll be sure to remind you when the time comes!

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
