It may be rather old, but due to the combined power of Xbox Backwards Compatibility and Games With Gold, the Xbox Original title Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction is now available to download for free to play on both Xbox One and Xbox 360.
Over 13 years ago, Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction released on the original Xbox and brought us a sandbox world of chaos like we’ve seldom seen before. There are three characters to choose from; Jennifer Mui, a former MI6 agent; Chris Jacobs, a former Delta Force operative; and Mattias Nilsson, who was once part of the Swedish Navy. Essentially, you’re playing the role of a lethal mercenary employed by ExOps to do the bidding of any faction requesting your services and destroying whatever gets in your way using a multitude of weapons in the process. Expect to be able to roam relatively freely, cause plenty of explosions and hijack any vehicle you wish to in this destructive experience from yesteryear.
Whilst it usually costs £8.99, Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction is currently stripped of its price tag on the Xbox Store as part of Games With Gold for December from now until the end of the month for Xbox Live Gold Members. Whether you should delve into this ancient offering or not is up to you, but whatever your decision, be sure to let us know!

In this playground of destruction, there are no limits, no barriers and no mercy.
