Xbox Game Pass has turned itself around massively in the last few months, going from a program that would only appeal to a small selection of gamers, to a near-on essential subscription. Today we see its numbers increase again as Ashen on Xbox One launches – making the most of the Game Pass in the process.

Available right now on Xbox One, Ashen is one of those hugely intriguing games that just has to be looked at. An open-worlder, it’ll tell you the story of a wanderer who is looking for a new home – but the twist is that no two gameplay experiences will ever be the same, so you get to make it your very own.

See, whether you are encountering other players, fighting evil or inviting them in to be your closest ally, Ashen will become a unique experience of your own. And it is the huge brutal open world that Ashen delivers in which many hours of your time will be spent, as you go about exploring, pillaging, battling or crafting in order to discover the ultimate experience.

Ashen is also one of the latest games to come about on to Xbox One thanks to the ID@Xbox Winter of Arcade. Running for the next couple of weeks, this will see a number of new indie titles hit Xbox One, with Ashen joined by…

If you wish to pick up Ashen on Xbox One right now then the Xbox Store will be able to sort you out with a download. Obviously, if you have a Game Pass subscription then you will find Ashen available for free, but otherwise a £33.49 price tag will need to be considered.

Game Description:

Ashen is an open world co-op action RPG about a wanderer in search of a place to call home. Passive Co-Op Multiplayer As you adventure through Ashen, you’ll occasionally encounter other players in a massive open world, akin to the passive multiplayer of Journey. It’s up to you to decide how to deal with them – fight together against evil, invite them into your party or simply ignore them. Souls with a Twist Ashen is faithful to the “souls” genre of stamina-based combat, introducing players to a punishing yet satisfyingly vast world. But here’s the twist – no two gameplay experiences are alike. Whether you’re exploring bogs, investigating a fjord or pillaging an old palace, where you are at any given moment will dramatically alter the course of your adventure. It’s a brutal open world; you’re just living in it. Creatures + Combat Ashen has no shortage of dangerous encounters, from hostile enemies to indigenous creatures. You’ll be rewarded for studying the environment and its inhabitants, planning your adventure rather than flying by the seat of your pants. The flora and fauna within the world aren’t just fantastical; they’re often fatal. Each confrontation, no matter how trivial, has potentially dire consequences. Crafting is Key As you discover survivors, you’ll have the choice to invite them to your Town. But these aren’t mere adventurers – they’re potential collaborators, bringing a plethora of crafting skills, from blacksmithing to foraging expertise, in tow. Story + Score Famed fantasy author Mark Lawrence (The Broken Empire trilogy) and renowned band Foreign Fields collaborated closely with the development team at Aurora44 to craft a cohesive and unique narrative and sound.
