Looking to drop some bombs on the Battle Royale scene and don’t want to pay a penny to do so? Super Bomberman R Online is here to power up your dreams.
Available to download absolutely free of charge right now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC, Super Bomberman R Online has come out of the previously released Super Bomberman R experience to work in a Battle Royale vibe – one that just so happens to be free-to-play.
Yep, going up against the big hitting Fortnite and PUBG, Bomberman takes to the Battle Royale scene with the promise of delivering something slightly different to the norm. It’ll let players compete with up to 64 folk from around the world, as they all head into the most explosive survival battle yet. Your task? To become BOMBER ONE. But it ain’t gonna be easy.
Taking the original Bomberman format and throwing in both Battle Royale and F2P goodies seems to be an obvious route for Super Bomberman R Online as we get the chance to not just enjoy a modern take on gaming, but be treated to some seriously old-school classic Bomberman fun in the process.
With a variety of outfits, bombs, power-ups and personalisation options in play, we’re not really sure why anyone wouldn’t be looking to join the bombing fraternity.
After the original Super Bomberman R provided a blast locally, with well crafted multiplayer options, we’ve got high hopes for what the Online version can deliver. Stay tuned for our full review of Super Bomberman R Online on Xbox in the days and weeks ahead.
For now, if you wish to grab a copy of the game for free, head to your favourite digital store – the Xbox Store being the one that provides the free goodies for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players.
Of course, like anything that is free, there’s a paid option for those looking to embrace it. This comes in the form of the Super Bomberman R Online Premium Pack (£7.99) which contains 14 additional characters (and their own special abilities), as well as the chance to create private matches for just you and your mates. We’re not really sure why that wouldn’t be included from the off, but who are we to question Konami’s marketing strategy.
There are also a variety of further micro-transaction fuelled packs too – 100 Bomber Coins will set you back £0.79, 500 costs £3.98, 1000 are available for £7.99 and a cool 3000 (plus 200 as a bonus) can be yours for £24.99. It’s up to you whether you decide to purchase those.
