Classic survival horror is making a comeback as Camel 101 announces Syndrome.

Previously confined to the PC market, indie studio Camel 101 are going big for 2016 with the arrival of Syndrome on Xbox One and PC. Waking up on a spaceship, dazed and and confused from the effects of cryosleep, you begin to search for the rest of the crew. Where could they have gone? All too suddenly, you discover that most of them are dead, and those still alive are… changed.

Survival horror has been done in abundance over the years, but Syndrome looks like it could well hold a place as it takes the genre right back to its roots. Minimal amounts of weaponry will ensure that defending yourself isn’t always possible and ammo will need to be conserved if you are to survive the horrors of the ship. With resource management a key component of Syndrome, you’ll also need to learn your enemies behavior, waiting for the most opportune moment to slip on by!

The main features of Syndrome are…

  • Claustrophobic horror―Countless threats, both physical and psychological, await inside the ship.
  • Fight or flee―Use weapons and ammo wisely, as they are in limited supply.
  • Eerie exploration―there’s plenty to discover if you take a moment to search your surroundings.
  • Nothing is what it seems―It’s up to you to find out what’s really going on aboard the ship.
  • Reactive enemies―Cause a stir or make some noise and they’ll pick up on your location.
  • Oculus Rift support―Experience total immersion with Syndrome in VR.

We should be seeing Syndrome hitting Xbox One, PS4, Mac, Linux and PC in Q2 of 2016.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
