Dare you enter The Quarry on Xbox, PlayStation or PC?

Rarely do Supermassive Games mess around. With Until Dawn and the triple threat of The Dark Pictures Anthology behind them, they know what it takes to create a rather wonderful gaming experience. Hopes are high for their latest, the teen-horror summer camp of The Quarry

Arriving on the back of The Dark Pictures Anthology trio of Man of Medan, Little Hope and House of Ashes, Supermassive Games and 2K move forth with The Quarry.

Available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and PC (Steam), The Quarry is a teen-horror affair that is pushed along by the narrative it brings. Dipped in horror, you can be sure that every single action you take and make will have a consequence, shaping the story via the choices you decide on. And that story will then determine which of the characters included lives, or dies.

Priced at £64.99 for the Standard Edition on Xbox Series X|S, £59.99 for the Xbox One drop, or £74.99 for the Deluxe version, The Quarry focuses on the lives of a group of friends who are celebrating their summer camp. The thing is, as the sun sets and the day ends, things take a bit of a turn with something pretty sinister taking hold.

You’ll get to play as each of the camp members, pushed through the narrative via a thrilling cinematic tale in which your decision work the fates. You’ll be able to make these decisions for yourself, or join up with others via the online world (at some point prior to July 8th) as people vote on how The Quarry plays out.

The key features of The Quarry sit as…

  • YOUR STORY, THEIR FATE – Will you dare to check what’s behind that trap door? Will you investigate the screams echoing from within the forest? Will you save your friends or desperately run for your life? Every choice, big or small, shapes your story and determines who lives to tell the tale.
  • A STUNNING CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE – Cutting edge facial capture and filmic lighting techniques, combined with incredible performances from an iconic ensemble cast of Hollywood talent, bring the horrors of Hackett’s Quarry to life in a pulse-pounding, cinematic thrill ride.
  • ENJOY THE FRIGHT WITH FRIENDS – Place your faith in up to 7 friends in online play, where invited players watch along and vote on key decisions, creating a story shaped by the whole group! Or, play together in a party horror couch co-op experience where each player picks a counselor and controls their actions.
  • CUSTOMIZE YOUR EXPERIENCE – Adjustable difficulty for all gameplay elements let players of any skill level enjoy the horror. And if you prefer to watch rather than play, Movie Mode lets you enjoy The Quarry as a binge-worthy cinematic thriller. Select how you want the story to unfold, kick back, and munch on some popcorn in between all the screams!

“It’s been almost seven years since we released our last teen-horror game, and we’ve challenged ourselves to advance interactive storytelling and take full advantage of technological leaps with The Quarry,” said Will Byles, Director at Supermassive Games. “The Quarry offers you the chance to see what choices you would make when encountered with the unthinkable and unimaginable. I can’t wait to see what stories you create!”

“The team at Supermassive Games have once again raised the bar for the interactive narrative genre,” said David Ismailer, President at 2K. “With an incredible cast and nail-biting story, it’s been fantastic to partner with them to bring fans what’s sure to be one of the most engrossing summer teen horror thrill rides of the summer.”

We’re running full review and will let you know how the Xbox Series X|S optimised version of The Quarry plays out very soon.

For now though you can get access for yourself by checking out the Xbox Store, the PlayStation Store or the Steam page. The Standard Edition of the game brings as you would expect – the base game – whilst the Deluxe Edition takes that and adds in further 1980’s themed character outfits, instant access to the Death Rewind system (something which you may well decide to utilise), a Gorefest Movie mode and the Horror Visual Filter Pack.

That Deluxe Edition will also let you play the game on either Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, whilst the Standard game is split across two different store pages.

Let us know how your adventures play out. This is a game that found a spot in our Up Next article for June, as we detailed the most exciting titles to arrive on Xbox this month. Hopes are very high.

Game Description:

As the sun sets on the last day of summer camp, the teenage counselors of Hackett’s Quarry throw a party to celebrate. No kids. No adults. No rules. Things quickly take a turn for the worse. Hunted by blood-drenched locals and something far more sinister, the teens’ party plans unravel into an unpredictable night of horror. Friendly banter and flirtations give way to life-or-death decisions, as relationships build or break under the strain of unimaginable choices. Play as each of the nine camp counselors in a thrilling cinematic tale, where every decision shapes your unique story from a tangled web of possibilities. Any character can be the star of the show—or die before daylight comes. How will your story unfold?

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
