Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires now available on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC

It’s been the best part of four years since Dynasty Warriors 9 released on Xbox, PlayStation and PC, but that does mean it’s well about time for things to expand. With Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires, that’s exactly what is happening.

Available right now to purchase and download on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC, Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires takes what we know and love about the series – the 1 vs 1000 battle – and drops in some tactical and strategic war play for good measure.

Priced at £54.99 for the Standard Edition, Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires is the latest of the ‘Empires’ titles to arrive on the scene, taking the base of the original Dynasty Warriors 9 and building upon it. There’s the Deluxe Edition too, costing £89.99, with it adding in Deluxe Edition items in the form of six Gems / ten Custom Ancient Officers / three Additional Campaign Scenarios and the Season Pass (something which is going to set you back £32.99 on its own). That Season Pass will then deliver up DLC periodically until APR 2022 – Custom Parts Set (14 pieces) / 5 Additional Palaces and four Additional Military Units.

What this means is that you’re getting the chance to head on out and conquer ancient China, working new features such as the evolved castle sieges and playing through multiple scenarios until you have proven yourself as a general on the field. With the opportunity to invade others and defend yourself from all attacks, KOEI TECMO and Omega Force are playing to the fans, giving them exactly what they want, when they want it.

That comes to the fore with the edit mode that is present in Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires. It’s here where players will be able to create their very own officers, taking them into battle as they see fit. With the best part of 800 Officers present from Dynasty Warriors 9, creating your very own Dynasty Warriors experience should be a cinch.

The key features in summary include:

  • Command your armies freely! – Exciting Castle Sieges! Combat has evolved from the “Battles” of previous games into “Castle Sieges” that occur in the area around each castle. In an always changing environment, use devious planning and military might to enjoy this new style of battle where the biggest question is “What’s the best way to take this castle?”
  • Politics System, where an Officer’s character and trust can strengthen the country. – In Politics, the choices of and the interactions between officers will determine the foundations of a force. Players are able to experience a variety of lifestyles, playing as Rulers, Generals, Unaffiliated officers, and more. Furthermore, an officers’ interactions with other officers will help to strengthen the country they are a part of.
  • Live dramatically! – The evolved “Edit Mode”. The game includes the Edit Mode, a series favorite. Players can create their own Custom Officers from a wide range of parts. With the 94 Musou Officers and over 700 Generic Officers that appear in DYNASTY WARRIORS 9, players can more dramatically populate their very own Dynasty Warriors experience.

Our full review of Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires on Xbox Series X|S is coming very soon so keep an eye out for it, but until that time, be sure that you can grab the download you need of the game from the usual stores. The Xbox Store is our favourite as it’s more than happy to work the line for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players, but this is also available on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Don’t forget to pick up the free content on offer too – there is the Female Custom Lu Lingqi Set, the Female Custom Xin Xianying Set, Male Custom Guo Jia Set and Male Custom Lu Xun Set all available for no asking price.

Game Description:

Engrave your life on the battlefield! A new release for the “Empires” series, which allows users to enjoy both the thrill of one-versus-a-thousand action and the intricacy of country conquering simulation!

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
