“September 28th. Daylight… the monsters have overtaken the city. Somehow… I’m still alive…”. How many times have you heard these words? Today, with the release of the Resident Evil 3 Remake on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, it’s possible you’ll hear them again.

Resident Evil 3 Remake is a direct continuation to the successful Resident Evil 2 Remake and takes place during the very beginning of the outbreak in Raccoon City. In fact, some of its events even cross paths with the predecessor. It also marks the return of S.T.A.R.S. officer Jill Valentine and reimagines her escape from the zombie-infested city.

Joining her is a cast of returning characters spearheaded by the smooth-talking Umbrella mercenary Carlos Oliveira. Gunshop owner Robert Kendo, whose plotline was marvellously portrayed in Resident Evil 2 Remake, also makes a welcome return.

Playing as Jill, you must scour the city for supplies and any remaining survivors. The city itself has received a makeover; many familiar locales are more fleshed out and elaborated upon with diligent attention to detail that fans of the series will no doubt appreciate. Its chaotic environment lets you witness firsthand the downfall of the once-great metropolis.

Progression is challenged with the return of the hulking Nemesis. Since his inception in 1999, this Tyrant type monster has become a staple of the game. He’s much faster and stronger than ever before. And thanks to his updated visual attire and voice-over, more frightening as well. To combat this brute, Resident Evil 3 Remake also brings back a revamped dodge mechanic, sure to come in handy during encounters against him.

Alongside Jill’s story, Resident Evil 3 Remake introduces a brand new Resistance mode: playable for free. This non-canon Outbreak-style multiplayer mode pits four survivors against a single mastermind in an intense race for survival. Taking control of one of the survivors, you must carefully coordinate with other players to overcome adversaries and escape from a locked facility. Meanwhile, another player takes control of a mastermind and sends hordes of zombies, dogs and even Nemesis himself to prevent their escape.

For £49.99, you can download Resident Evil 3 Remake from the Xbox Store. And if you played the phenomenal demo released late in March, then you know what to expect from the game. But if you’re still on the fence then, by all means, check out the awesome announcement trailer below and stay vigilant for our upcoming Xbox One review.

There is also the Raccoon City Edition which bundles together both the Resident Evil 2 Remake and this Resident Evil 3 one. Further, it includes Resistance as well, with the whole lot setting you back £65.98.
