It was the best part of a year ago when we saw Mask of Mists open its magical doors on Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch, providing players the chance to work through a host of puzzles in hope of understanding the magical mysteries that lay within. Now though, that same game is getting a bit of an upgrade with an improved version on Xbox Series X|S and PS5.
Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox Series X|S and PS5, Mask of Mists takes what had previously dropped on older consoles and pushes it in to a new realm; one full of visual upgrades and enjoyment. At least that’s what we’re hoping we’re getting as, frankly, the info available on what is in place is a little short on detail.
What we do know though is that this tells the same tale as previous. An adventure game that is set in the first person, you’ll be left to work through a world full of magic and secrets, playing the part of a mercenary who has been assigned one job – find a missing person.
The problem is, you’ll need to battle your way past the creatures of the Abyss in order to do so, fighting them back as you see fit. With puzzles to solve, potions to enjoy and a passageway between worlds to open, there should be much to take in. Whether it has enough of a next-gen Xbox Series X|S/PS5 upgrade to ensure that Mask of Mists is now a viable prospect is another matter, as honestly we weren’t overly sold on it first time around.

- – Fight with magical creatures; – Collect items and use them to solve puzzles;
- – Create alchemical potions from the magic plants you found;
- – Open the passageway between the worlds and find the legendary artifact!
But hey, the next-gen glories are here to tempt us in once more. it’s nice too that those who have previously purchased the game on old gen can grab some kind of discount when upgrading, although the 50% discount for Xbox One owners looking to move to Series X|S isn’t quite as forthcoming as a full Smart Delivery push.
