New Star GP races on to Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC

After a super classy retro arcade racer? New Star GP races onto console and PC today. 

Available right now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S is New Star GP; a retro arcade racer of immense quality, put together by the New Star Games team. It’s also on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam). Expect to pay around £24.99 for the opportunity to get behind the wheel. 

A great arcade racer

Fast, exciting, full of content and brilliant to play, New Star GP is one of the very finest of all arcade racers. If you don’t believe us, read our full review of the game on Xbox Series X|S and you’ll begin to understand why – a 4.5/5 review score doesn’t lie. 

Grab for the helmet and fireproof overalls and you’ll find that New Star GP is complete with pretty much everything you would expect of a retro arcade racer. It looks the business, for one, but comes with tons of content. That is split between a Career and Championship, taking you through decades of racing, making the most of the cars of the 1980s, moving through the years until you reach the holy grail of the 2022s. 

That career delivers 176 unique events – straight up racing, time trials, elimination events, checkpoints, rival races, reverse tracks and more. Consider that New Star GP has been inspired by the real-world F1 circuit, and you’ll find tracks and drivers to suit. But of course, this is no F1 24 – this is arcade racing an as such you should expect a swifter, faster affair. Minute-long laps, anyone?

With off-track management as crucial to your racing skills on circuit, sponsors, car upgrades, staff perks and more, there’s not an ounce of doubt in what New Star Games have provided here. That is aside from an online multiplayer mode. For us, that’s a miss. 

But hey, chuck in some solo championships, or the opportunity to go at it with local friends, and the hit isn’t too bad.
